The Mechanical Tooling and Install Engineer is responsible for designing and developing tooling, machinery, and fixtures, then overseeing the installation of that machinery within the various plants. This associate will also be responsible for providing support with diagnosing and resolving technical and mechanical issues, communicating and maintaining internal and external relationships, preparing machinery documentation, and ensuring budget and production deadlines are met in a timely manner.
This dual position requires a blend of technical design expertise and hands-on installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting skills.
Responsibilities:
Create designs and develop tooling, machinery, and fixtures needed for manufacturing processes or specific projects, for both new and upgraded machinery and tooling.
Manage the installation of machinery, tooling, and automated equipment within the plants and ensure they function as specified.
Perform start-ups, testing, and evaluation to ensure new tools and machines are working correctly and meet performance standards and adhere to safety and quality standards.
Document assembly, installation, and maintenance procedures.
Prepare and maintain detailed technical manuals and drawings, and other engineering documentation for machine handling, installation, and preventative maintenance.
Conduct feasibility studies and analyze production data to continuously improve tooling processes, manufacturing efficiency, production quality, and safety standards.
Provide hands-on support to diagnose and resolve technical and mechanical issues with tools and machinery to keep production running smoothly.
Monitor project budgets and deadlines to ensure that all tooling and installation activities stay on track.
Collaborate with engineers, machinists, production teams, and outside vendors to ensure projects are on time, meets design requirements, and manufacturability standards.
Travel to all plant locations to assist with machine installation and machinery troubleshooting.
Train operators and maintenance associates on proper and safe use of new and upgraded machinery and tooling.
Perform all other duties as assigned and directed.
Specifications/Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Advanced knowledge in tool and die design/making, fabrication, roll forming, and punch press machinery.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Solid Works) and 3D modeling techniques.
Knowledge in ISO 9001:2015.Knowledge of Six Sigma or lean methodologies.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Strong mathematical skills with the ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings.
Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Strong leadership skills, with ability to train and motivate other associates.
Ability to self-motivate, work with minimal supervision, and multi-task.
Must have strong organizational skills and attention to details.
Must demonstrate analytical and reasoning skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain strong external and internal relationships with all levels of associates.
Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
Physical Demand:
Associates must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, reach, and lift for a full 8-hour day.
Work Environment:70% manufacturing setting and 30% office setting
Associates must comply with assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements in varies areas, including but not limited to, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and safety shoes.
Associates will have exposure to typical working conditions within the manufacturing environment, including but not limited to, seasonal temperature changes, occasional exposure to exhaust fumes, dirt, dust, debris, and grease, moving forklift equipment, and pinch points on machinery.
