Housekeeper
Inside Higher Ed is looking for a Housekeeper. The Facilities Department plays a crucial role in maintaining the residential, academic, and administrative spaces of Beloit College, ensuring a healthy and pleasant environment for faculty, staff, and students. The selected candidate will collaborate with diverse stakeholders and perform a variety of cleaning duties across over 80 campus buildings.
Responsibilities- Perform cleaning tasks in assigned areas following established procedures and safety rules.
- Collect and remove trash and litter inside and outside the campus.
- Clean and disinfect restrooms, shower rooms, elevator interiors, room phone areas, trash baskets, and collection containers.
- Dust and clean walls, doors, furniture, drapes, and windows.
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, scrub, and perform carpet cleaning as needed.
- Replace burned‑out light bulbs and clean light fixtures.
- Maintain hard‑surfaced floors and woodwork, including stripping and refinishing when required.
- Assist with snow removal as directed.
- Assist with moving, setting up furnishings, and event setup.
- Use appropriate chemical supplies and equipment, exercising daily judgment.
- Keep equipment clean and functional; report malfunctions via phone, in person or via work order.
- Report unsafe or unusual conditions promptly.
- Complete work orders and project requests assigned by supervisor.
- Manage supply order requests to maintain adequate stock.
- Work as part of the team and assist other facilities personnel as directed.
- Train, work with, or coordinate responsibilities of facilities student employees.
- Maintain key security, unlocking and locking areas as required.
- Perform all duties in accordance with OSHA safety regulations and campus policies.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous housekeeping or related background preferred.
- Knowledge of housekeeping operations and customer service standards.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments.
- Ability to develop a cooperative work environment.
- Flexibility throughout tasks and adaptability to change.
- Ability to foster inclusive learning and work environments welcoming diverse backgrounds.
- Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills; effective listening, communication, and teamwork.
- Understanding of the mission of a residential liberal arts college.
- Knowledge of OSHA, fire and life safety standards, and hazardous materials handling.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools used in housekeeping.
- Reading and writing skills; ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Valid driver’s license; availability for on‑call emergencies.
- Will share on‑call responsibilities.
- Full range of body motion; lift 40 pounds, frequently lift 30 pounds independently.
- Bending, squatting, twisting, crawling, and climbing.
- Stand or walk for long periods; traverse campus freely.
- Climb stairs and ladders up to 10 feet.
- Visual and hearing ability to operate equipment and communicate.
- Work outside in all weather conditions.
