Summary:

The Materials Manager is responsible for leading the planning, control, and flow of materials to support manufacturing operations and meet customer delivery requirements. This role oversees inventory control, materials planning, production scheduling, and warehouse operations, ensuring the timely and efficient movement of materials throughout the facility. The Materials Manager plays a critical role in maintaining inventory accuracy, optimizing material flow, supporting production readiness, and enabling on-time delivery while driving operational efficiency and continuous improvement.

This position will be based in Darien, WI.

Key Responsibilities:

Materials Management & Inventory Control
  • Develop and execute materials management strategies that align with production schedules and customer delivery commitments.
  • Manage and maintain accurate inventory levels to support production needs while optimizing working capital.
  • Oversee inventory control processes, including cycle counting, physical inventory, and root cause analysis of inventory discrepancies.
  • Ensure ERP system accuracy for inventory transactions, material movements, and inventory levels.
  • Establish and monitor key inventory metrics, including inventory turns, accuracy, and days of supply.
Production Planning & Scheduling
  • Lead the production planning and scheduling function to ensure material availability aligns with demand forecasts and production capacity.
  • Develop and communicate master production schedules and material requirements to internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Customer Service teams to ensure smooth material flow and resolve production bottlenecks.
  • Manage and optimize MRP system settings to improve planning accuracy and efficiency.
Warehouse & Material Flow Operations
  • Oversee warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, material handling, and line-side delivery of materials.
  • Ensure proper material storage, labeling, and inventory organization to support efficient material retrieval and minimize handling.
  • Drive improvements in warehouse layout, space utilization, and material handling practices.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements in warehouse operations.
Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence
  • Identify and implement process improvements in materials management, warehouse operations, and production planning.
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional initiatives to improve material flow, reduce inventory discrepancies, and eliminate waste.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing Principles 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies to optimize materials operations.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and best practices for materials management.
Key Requirements:

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor s degree in supply chain management, Operations, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in materials management, inventory control, production planning, or related operations roles, with at least 3 years in leadership capacity.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in industrial, electrical, or enclosure manufacturing.

  • Strong knowledge of MRP/ERP systems, inventory control, production planning, and warehouse operations.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective leadership and team development abilities.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and process improvement.
