Welding Engineer
Salary: $100,000 – $120,000 per year.
Company OverviewHighly respected manufacturer specializing in engineered stainless steel solutions for demanding industrial applications. Our work requires technical precision, strong manufacturing discipline, and deep expertise in welding, fabrication, quality, and process improvement. We support complex products involving stainless steel, aluminum, sheet metal, weldments, large assemblies, and pressure‑containing applications where safety, repeatability, compliance, and craftsmanship are critical.
Why Join UsThis is a strong opportunity for a hands‑on Welding Engineer who wants to have a direct impact on welding performance, production capability, and manufacturing quality. The Welding Engineer will help develop and qualify welding procedures, troubleshoot weld issues, improve process consistency, support fixture development, and drive welding improvements across the operation. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the shop floor, partnering with production and engineering teams, and using technical welding knowledge to solve real manufacturing challenges.
JobDetails
The Welding Engineer is responsible for developing welding techniques, procedures, and equipment applications to support the fabrication of metals. This role will support and troubleshoot welding processes, investigate welding defects, develop corrective actions, improve production capabilities, and ensure welding processes are repeatable, traceable, and aligned with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements.
This person will work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Production, and shop‑floor teams to optimize welding processes, improve workflow, develop fixtures, support work instructions, and help ensure that welding operations meet equipment, material, production, and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Welding Process Development & Support – Develop, support, and troubleshoot welding processes across stainless steel, aluminum, sheet metal, weldments, large assemblies, and pressure‑containing applications. Develop welding procedures that effectively utilize current and emerging welding technologies. Improve production capabilities by optimizing welding processes, reducing inconsistencies, and driving weld quality improvements. Provide technical guidance on welding challenges, equipment applications, and product material selection.
Evaluate production processes and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, consistency, quality, and repeatability. - Weld Defect Investigation & Corrective Action – Investigate and document welding defects to determine root cause and appropriate corrective actions. Analyze weld issues related to process parameters, materials, equipment, fixtures, operator technique, and production conditions. Partner with production and quality teams to reduce weld defects, improve first‑pass quality, and prevent recurring issues. Use structured problem‑solving methods to support corrective action and continuous improvement efforts.
Procedures, Codes & Qualifications
- Develop and qualify welding procedures for stainless steel and aluminum applications.
- Support welding procedure development and qualification across structural, over‑the‑road, agricultural, and pressure‑containing products.
- Apply strong working knowledge of AWS and ASME welding codes and standards, including AWS D1.2/D1.2M, AWS D1.6/D1.6M, AWS D14.3/D14.3M, ASME BPVC Section IX, and ASME Section VIII pressure vessel requirements.
- Support WPS/PQR qualification activity for pressure vessel and related applications.
- Ensure welding processes are compliant with applicable code, customer, regulatory, equipment, and internal requirements.
- Support advanced welding process development, including cold wire GTAW, hot wire GTAW, hybrid laser welding, and laser hot wire or laser cold wire systems.
- Evaluate new welding technologies and equipment applications to improve throughput, consistency, quality, and production capability.
