Beloit Memorial Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse First Assistant for our Surgical Services Department.

The Registered Nurse First Assistant is a perioperative Registered Nurse who functions in an expanded role. The Registered Nurse First Assistant functions as the assistant to the operating surgeon during the operative procedure and provides comprehensive nursing management and care during the perioperative phase. The Registered Nurse First Assistant should be experienced in both scrub and circulating nurse roles and have excellent skills for patient care.
TheRegistered Nurse First Assistant Will
- Apply the principles of asepsis and infection control.
- Use surgical instruments skillfully.
- Perform RNFA interventions as directed and supervised by the surgeon.
- Perform positioning, prepping, and draping of the patient.
- Handle tissues appropriately to reduce injury potential, sutures tissue and applies dressings to the wound under the surgeon's direction.
- Provide hemostasis by clamping blood vessels, coagulating bleeding points, ligating vessels, and by other means as directed by the surgeon.
- Provide exposure through appropriate use of instruments, retractors, suctioning and sponging techniques.
- Comply with System and department procedures, competencies, rules, and directives.
- Establish and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with others.
- Act as a patient advocate, maintaining confidentiality and privacy of individuals and health information.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
- Responsible for meeting requirements of participating in the call rotation.
- Graduate of accredited NLS school of nursing ADN, Diploma, BSN (preferred) or MSN degree acceptable.
- Completion of an accredited RNFA program that meets the criteria set out in AORN Standards for the RN First Assistance Programs.
- Active Wisconsin RN licensure (if multistate, must apply for WI within 30 days of hire)
- Active or willing to obtain Illinois RN licensure, must apply within 30 days of hire.
- Three (3) years of perioperative nursing experience in both scrub and circulating roles.
- Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR) is highly encouraged.
- Must be CPR certified within 3 months of hire.
- Maintain ethical conduct and keep confidential personal and medical information about patients.
- Adhere to all established hospital policies, rules, and regulations.
- Participate in educational programs and continually seek for personal development.
- Reaching, and sitting at long intervals.
- Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination.
- Ability to see and hear at a sufficient level to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to speak clearly and distinctly and to interact positively with patients, peers, and the public.
- Ability to carry 15-30 pounds.
- Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions.
- Physical effort includes walking, standing, stair climbing, bending and stooping, lifting.
