The Registered Nurse
-Recovery/PACU is responsible for assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating patient care across the lifespan. Working under general supervision, the Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Registered Nurse
-Recovery/PACU provide specialized nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. The
Registered Nurse
-Recovery/PACU responsibilities include preparing patients for surgery, monitoring and supporting patients throughout the perioperative and recovery phases, assisting surgeons and the surgical team during procedures, and ensuring safe, effective post-anesthesia care.

-Recovery/PACU also assist the surgeon and the surgical team in their tasks.
- Provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of OR/PACU Nurses include - where applicable (but are not limited to):
- Work with all members of the health care team to provide optimal care to the patient throughout their surgical experience.
- Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team.
- Assist in patient education during all phases of their experience at the Center.
- Monitor use of and charge for all supplies used. Assist with inventory control by proper count of supplies/time used.
- Records all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format with computer software application appropriate to position.
- Preps operating room for patient/procedure.
- Identifies actual and potential risk to patients and others and takes action to minimize or eliminate risk and maximize safety.
- Monitors patients' physical and emotional well-being throughout the care continuum.
- Must be able to make quick assessments of patients and be able to handle emergency situations appropriately.
- Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.
- Depending on setting, may also:
Direct care provided by licensed practical nurses and nursing aides. - During the surgical procedure, OR Nurses can take the role of:
Circulating Nurse, with the additional duties as assigned.
Registered Nurse
-Recovery/PACU may be asked to float among various clinical services, as directed/needed.
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing
- ADN, Diploma, BSN, or MSN degree acceptable
- State of Wisconsin Nursing licensure or permit required
- On call requirements, 30-minute response time
- Basic Life Support/CPR within 3 months
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or the ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire
