Job Overview
Responsible for conducting routine standard plating and media inoculations on raw materials, batch samples and finished product. Support investigations by conducting micro analysis on samples as needed by technical managers. Conduct assigned plating, handling, and inoculating instructions on environmental samples. Prepare and maintain all micro medias required for all routine plate count requirements and/or requested by the Microbiology Lab Supervisor. Conduct plate counts and record results.
Assist in maintenance of lab equipment. Follow all established micro lab SOPs. Directly communicate any micro or supply issues to the Microbiology Lab Supervisor. Assist with audit, challenge studies and special projects as needed. Maintain good laboratory and housekeeping practices following Good Manufacturing Practices.

- Support investigations by conducting micro analysis on samples as required by technical managers.
- Conduct assigned plating, handling, and inoculating instructions on environmental samples.
- Prepare and maintain micro media for routine plate count requirements and requests from the Supervisor.
- Conduct plate counts and accurately record results.
- Assist in maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Follow all established micro lab SOPs and Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Communicate micro or supply issues to the Supervisor.
- Assist with audit, challenge studies and special projects as needed.
- Maintain laboratory and housekeeping standards.
Skills and Abilities
- Basic laboratory skills: aseptic technique, media preparation, plating, dilutions, pipetting, and swabbing.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to speak, read, and comprehend English for safety instructions, procedures, and communications.
- Flexible work schedule with ability to work overtime and weekends.
- Dependable.
- High School Degree, preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in a laboratory environment, preferred.
- Quality Assurance or Microbiology laboratory experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, or related field will qualify for a Microbiologist position.
Controlled food plant facility with ambient conditions; frequently exposed to wet, cold, hot or humid temperatures, moving forklifts, and fumes. Must be able to lift 50+ pounds.
