General Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining equipment and facilities to operate in the safest and most productive condition, supporting continuous improvement, production strategies and plant reliability of equipment and building systems. Understands and adheres to governmental regulatory programs and policies. These may include but are not limited to National Electrical Code, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Uniform Building Code (UBC) and local government environmental agency policies.

Responsibilities
  • Practice and comply with all plant and maintenance department safety procedures, including Lock‑Out Tag‑Out, Arc Flash and Hot Work permits.
  • Understand and assist with Permit Required Confined Spaces and alternate entry of re‑classified confined spaces when necessary.
  • Follow all applicable Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for assigned area.
  • Maintain and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with OSHA, food handling before and after equipment inspection and repair activities.
  • Attend classes, seminars, and in‑house training as needed to maintain skill level with changes in the industry.
  • Make improvements and suggestions to optimize the maintenance program.
  • Execute and document planned and unplanned work findings and data during shift via CMMS.
  • Repair and install parts, tools and equipment; fabricate or modify machines, tools or equipment to manufacture new products or improve existing products.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance (PM), inspections, corrective repairs, special projects/equipment rebuilds.
  • Execute and resolve equipment breakdowns/repairs.
  • Leverage methodologies including RCA, BDA and cause maps to identify and resolve equipment issues.
  • Utilize predictive maintenance technologies (ultrasound, thermal imaging, oil analysis, vibration analysis) to identify failures and take correct follow‑up actions.
  • Document causes of failures and work with team to prevent recurrence.
  • Interpret technical documents and diagrams (factory manuals, blueprints, schematics, single‑line drawings, mechanical/electrical schematics, pneumatics, hydraulics, P&).
  • Maintain and repair facility/utility systems such as mechanical, electrical, building systems, water heater/boiler, steam, chilling system, electrical power, gas, or compressed air.
  • Execute PMs and repairs to HVAC, refrigeration, instrumentation, elevator maintenance, painting, plumbing, carpentry, groundskeeping and mechanical repairs – pumps, motors.
  • Perform tests, repair, and replacement of fire alarm, fire sprinkler, smoke detector, emergency and exit sign lighting systems and report malfunctions.
  • Repair, replace, rebuild plumbing fixtures and connections.
  • Clean and replace traps, drains, vents, drain lines, faucets, toilets, perform basic wall board repairs and installation.
  • Handle plant waste, hazardous and non‑hazardous, in compliance with local, state, federal, and EPA regulations.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED; minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing facility performing mechanical and electrical inspections, troubleshooting and repairs; pass plant specific maintenance test.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Some college or formal technical school education with demonstrated aptitude and skills in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, carpentry, plumbing, and welding techniques.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations, along with two years in food manufacturing environment experience.
