General Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining equipment and facilities to operate in the safest and most productive condition, supporting continuous improvement, production strategies and plant reliability of equipment and building systems. The role ensures compliance with governmental regulatory programs and policies, including the National Electrical Code, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Uniform Building Code (UBC), and local environmental agency policies.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Practices and complies with all plant and maintenance department safety procedures, including lock‑out/tag‑out, arc flash, and hot work permits.
  • Understands the concept of permit‑required confined spaces and assists with alternate entry of re‑classified confined spaces.
  • Follows all applicable good manufacturing practices (GMPs) for the assigned area.
  • Uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with OSHA during food handling, equipment inspection, and repair activities.
  • Attends classes, seminars, and in‑house training as needed to maintain skill level with changes in the industry.
  • Suggests improvements to optimize the maintenance program.
  • Executes and documents planned and unplanned work findings and data via the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Performs repairs, installations, and fabrication or modification of parts, tools, and equipment to support new or improved product manufacturing.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance (PM), inspections, corrective repairs, special projects, and equipment rebuilds.
  • Handles equipment breakdowns and repairs using root cause analysis (RCA), breakdown failure analysis (BDA), and cause maps.
  • Utilizes predictive maintenance technologies (ultrasound, thermal imaging, oil analysis, vibration analysis) to identify failures and take appropriate follow‑up actions.
  • Documents failure causes and collaborates with the maintenance team, planner, supervisor, or other members to prevent recurrence.
  • Interprets technical documents and diagrams such as factory manuals, blueprints, schematics, single‑line electrical drawings, mechanical and electrical equipment schematics, pneumatics, hydraulics, process and instrumentation diagrams (P&’s), and others.
  • Maintains and repairs facility/utility systems (mechanical, electrical, building, water heater/boiler, steam, chilling, electric power, gas, compressed air).
  • Performs PMs and repairs on HVAC, refrigeration, instrumentation, elevator maintenance, painting, plumbing, carpentry, grounds‑keeping, and mechanical pump and motor systems.
  • May test, repair, and replace fire alarm, fire sprinkler, smoke detector, emergency exit sign lighting systems and report malfunctions.
  • Repairs, replaces, or rebuilds plumbing fixtures and connections; cleans and replaces traps, drains, vents, drain lines, faucets, faces, toilets, and performs basic wall board repairs and installation.
  • Handles hazardous and non‑hazardous plant waste in compliance with local, state, federal, EPA regulations.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED; minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing facility performing mechanical and electrical inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs; must pass a plant‑specific maintenance test.
  • Preferred:
    Some college or formal technical school education with demonstrated aptitude and skills in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, carpentry, plumbing, and welding techniques.
  • Ability to handle problems involving variables in standardized situations and two years of experience in a food manufacturing environment.
