Gas Technician-Welder- Journey or Apprentice

Job Summary

Gas Technician (Welding) Apprentice located in Beloit, WI. Works on large tapping projects and assists the tool crib with gas tools and repair. The role is responsible for maintaining and installing gas underground distribution systems and electric underground cable. Approximately 60‑70% of duties involve large flange tapping. Emergency response and on‑call availability are required.

Must reside or relocate within 25 minutes travel time of Beloit headquarters.

• Maintain and install gas underground distribution systems.
• Install electric underground cable, pedestal stakes and ground rods where concurrent with gas work.
• Install gas mains, regulators, relief valves and meters, hydrants, valves, and perform tapping of mains.
• Locate and repair leaks.
• Read gas meters and perform meter exchanges.
• Assist with emergency restoration, construction, maintenance or meter exchanges and customer services such as appliance inspections, pilot relighting, leak detection.
• Assist the Service Department with periodic gas meter exchanges.
• Locate gas and electric underground utility facilities.
• Inspect contractor work as assigned.
• Perform necessary clerical work and maintain accurate records.
• Maintain good customer relations and keep customers informed of work being performed.
• Perform pipe joining and related tasks.
• Adhere to company procedures and safety practices.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Completion of a gas technician apprenticeship and passing the final position qualification examination.
• Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License prior to the end of the trial period.
• Knowledge of DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements under 49

  199.

• Proficient with digging tools and modern street equipment.
• Welding skill preferred.
• Ability to lead and teach others.
• Neat appearance and professional conduct.
• Physical ability to perform required job duties.
