Job Description
Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) at Bio Life Plasma Services supports plasma center operations. The role reports to the Plasma Center Manager and provides medical oversight under the Center Physician. The specialist is responsible for determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, reviewing laboratory test results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. The role follows SOPs for medical emergencies, supports the Center Physician’s standing orders, and contributes to environmental, health and safety (EHS) compliance.
Aboutthe Role
Key responsibilities include:
- Determine donor eligibility, managing informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview, acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and review of serological protein electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate donor reactions as outlined in SOPs; follow medical emergency SOPs, coordinate with the Center Physician, develop standing orders, and arrange donor transport to emergency care facilities.
- Consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs on unacceptable findings, donor safety, and eligibility issues.
- Support Hepatitis B and seasonal flu vaccination programs for employees when applicable.
- Manage employee incidents and determine the need for further evaluation by occupational health or ER, referencing EHS guidance.
- Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS, supporting investigations related to pandemic threats in the local community.
- High school diploma or equivalent, including graduate-equivalent recognized nursing program with state requirements.
- Licensed or certified as an LPN or LVN in the state of assignment.
- Current CPR and AED certification.
- Fulfillment of state requirements for basic IV therapy.
- Completion of FDA-approved training for a Bio Life Medical Support Specialist.
- Two years of clinical or hospital experience.
Hourly wage range: $24.32 - $33.44. The actual wage may vary based on qualifications, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
