Job Title: Principal, High School
FLSA Status: Exempt, 226 days
Reports To: Executive Director of School Leadership
Pay Grade: AD-9

Primary

Purpose:

Provide instructional leadership in order to ensure students learn the essential academic knowledge and skills and grow in the Journey of a Graduate competencies. Responsible for establishing and implementing a shared vision and culture of high expectations for students and staff. Identify focus for campus improvement, inspire/lead change effectively, and create a purposeful community engaged in actions toward the achievement of the District vision.

Provide leadership for effective and efficient operational processes and systems aligned with District values and beliefs. Establish strong partnerships with stakeholders in support of exceptional learning experiences for each and every student.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Master’s Degree in educational administration or curriculum and instruction
  • Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate
  • Texas teaching certificate
  • Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T‑TESS) appraiser

Special Knowledge &

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of curriculum, instructional design, and assessment best practices
  • Ability to effectively lead change
  • Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to align actions and behaviors to District values and beliefs
  • Ability to ensure effective instructional design maximizes student growth
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Ability to coordinate campus functions
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data and identify areas of focus for improvement
  • Ability to organize and communicate using a variety of mediums
  • Ability to build strong stakeholder relationships

Experience:

  • Three (3) years experience as a classroom teacher
  • Experience as a secondary assistant or associate principal
  • Demonstrated experience with instructional leadership roles
  • Experience as lead principal of a large, comprehensive high school preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Provide instructional leadership to ensure each and every student experiences exceptional learning that is rigorous, designed for high levels of engagement and supports the growth of the Journey of a Graduate competencies.
  • Implement high-quality instructional practices that improve student performance.
  • Implement a rigorous curriculum and assessments aligned with state standards.
  • Monitor multiple forms of student data to inform instructional and intervention decisions.
  • Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements in the purpose, design, and implementation of instructional programs aligned to the District vision, values and goals.
  • Lead change through cultivating buy‑in, developing an effective implementation plan, monitoring and evaluating the plans and making necessary changes.
  • Develop and implement a shared vision of high expectations for students and staff.
  • Establish and monitor clear expectations for adults and student conduct.
  • Foster collegiality and team‑building among staff members; encourage their active involvement in the decision‑making process.
  • Communicate and promote expectations for high‑level performance from staff and students in a supportive manner; provide recognition of excellence and achievement.
  • Facilitate the effective and timely resolution of conflicts.
  • Maintain a solution‑oriented mindset by treating challenges as opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, caring environment in which students and staff feel safe, valued, supported and challenged to grow.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and community members; actively involve the staff and other stakeholders in planning and decision‑making activities.
  • Ensure the efficient collaboration and supervision of all departments on campus including special education, career and technical education (CTE), and athletics.
