Company Overview
Our company is building a next-generation manufacturing facility focused on producing high-performance, aerospace-grade alloys. This greenfield operation will support advanced melting and casting processes, supplying critical materials to demanding industries where quality, consistency, and metallurgical integrity are essential.
Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Metallurgical Engineer to serve as a key technical leader in the development, production, and quality assurance of nickel-based superalloys. This role is highly hands-on and will focus on melting technologies, casting processes, and metallurgical performance in a precision-driven manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in superalloy systems, strong experience in Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM), and a solid background in investment casting or foundry operations.
Key Responsibilities
Melting & Process Optimization
- Provide technical leadership for Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM) operations
- Optimize melt practices including charge preparation, alloy additions, filtration, and pouring parameters
- Troubleshoot chemistry, cleanliness, and process-related issues impacting product integrity
- Support and optimize investment casting processes and solidification behavior
- Apply advanced knowledge of phase transformations and alloy systems to improve quality and yield
- Partner with operations to stabilize and enhance production performance
- Interpret and apply aerospace and industry specifications (AMS, ASTM, ASME)
- Ensure compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, and NADCAP standards
- Develop and maintain Method of Manufacture (MoM) and material control documentation
- Oversee metallurgical testing including chemistry, microstructure, and mechanical properties
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective actions for process or material deviations
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across melting and casting operations
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
- 5+ years of experience working with nickel-, cobalt-, or iron-based superalloys
- Hands-on experience with Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM), VAR, or ESR processes
- Direct experience in an investment casting or foundry environment
- Strong understanding of solidification, phase transformations, and alloy behavior
- Experience interpreting aerospace specifications and quality requirements
- Experience with casting simulation software (ProCAST, Magma, or similar)
- Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification
- Experience supporting aerospace or high-spec industrial customers
- Prior experience in a startup or greenfield manufacturing environment
