Medication Technician

Position Description

This position assists in the overall operation of the Medication Room at the Bell County Jail in Belton, TX, and distributes patients’ medications from filled prescriptions.

• Medication Administration:
  Safely administer medications to patients. Demonstrate basic medication knowledge, including purposes, common side effects, and appropriate administration routes.
• Documentation:
  Ensure proper documentation of all medication administration, including refusals, in the EHR.
• Medication Preparation and Inventory Management:
  Prepare daily medication carts, blister packs, and supplies needed for each med pass. Maintain accurate inventory of medications; communicate any medication shortages, discrepancies, or ordering needs to their supervisor.
• Medication Verification:
  Verify patient-provided medications upon intake by contacting the dispensing pharmacy to confirm prescription details.

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
• Must complete the assigned training program within 30 days of hire.

• Experience with medication administration and pharmacy inventory management.
• Experience in a correctional setting.
