GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Direct Support Professional 3 performs complex (journey-level) habilitation care work with individuals who have developmental disabilities, involving implementing treatment programs and performing therapeutic or developmental activities. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.

This position provides direct care, supervision, and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) receiving Crisis Respite services. The DSP assists individuals experiencing behavioral, emotional, or environmental crises by implementing established support strategies in a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment. Working under the direction of the Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) and other clinical staff, the DSP follows approved Behavior Support Plans/Therapeutic Support Plans and Crisis Prevention and Intervention procedures to promote safety, stability, and successful transition back to the individual's home or community setting.

This position will provide services in the Belton IDD and Wales (Killeen) IDD offices. Occasionally respite may be provided in an individual’s home.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Direct Care and Supervision
  • Provide direct supervision and support to individuals receiving Crisis Respite services.
  • Ensure the health, safety, dignity, and welfare of each individual.
  • Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, eating, and personal hygiene, as needed.
  • Encourage independence by assisting individuals to perform tasks to the greatest extent possible.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment.
Behavior Support/Therapeutic Plan Implementation

Working under the direction of the LBA the DSP shall:

  • Implement Behavior Support or Therapeutic Support Plans as written to the individual receiving services.
  • Utilize approved positive behavior support strategies.
  • Reinforce replacement behaviors and skill development identified in the Behavior Support or Therapeutic Plan.
  • Utilize approved de-escalation techniques during behavioral escalation.
  • Observe participant behaviors and document objectively regarding implementation of the plan.
  • Promptly report changes in behavior or concerns to supervisory staff.
  • Follow all crisis intervention procedures established by CCS.
Crisis Prevention and Intervention
  • Assist in maintaining a calm and therapeutic environment.
  • Recognize early signs of behavioral escalation.
  • Implement approved crisis intervention techniques as trained.
  • Maintain participant and staff safety during behavioral incidents.
  • Notify supervisory staff of significant behavioral events.
  • Complete required incident documentation.
Documentation
  • Complete required documentation accurately, objectively, and timely.
  • Document services provided, behavioral observations, interventions, and incidents.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all participant information.
  • Utilize the electronic health record (EHR) in accordance with agency policy.
