About the Manager of Operations Position
The Manager of Operations (OM) leads all activities within the Operating Area that result in the safe and effective operation of Colonial’s facilities and ensures the transportation and delivery of products to the satisfaction of Colonial’s customers. The chief objective is to achieve safety, system integrity, and Operational Excellence by leading and managing employee performance and behavior toward the application of organizational programs, policies, and plans.
The OM is also the primary face of the company to internal and external audiences, taking proactive action to address customer needs and representing the company in interactions with the community and regulatory bodies.
- Perform all operational activities, manage staff performance, and oversee safety, quality control, budgeting, compliance, and regulatory matters.
- Interact with customers, including power generation plants, local distribution companies, and pipeline transmission interconnects.
- Lead, promote, and develop employees to create well‑trained, effective, and productive work teams.
- Lead fuel optimization operations and support associated projects.
- Communicate and evaluate performance expectations, providing ongoing and timely feedback and coaching to improve employee performance.
- Demonstrate leadership and influence across functions to drive continuous improvement, innovation, and organizational excellence.
- Build and maintain constructive relationships with local shippers, government agencies, and community groups.
- Prepare for and represent the company during governmental agency, shipper, and internal audits.
- Develop and maintain relationships with state and local emergency response officials and first responders.
- Associate’s degree in a technical or business‑related field of study from an accredited college or university; experience may substitute for education.
- At least 5 years of operations or business experience in pipeline operations or a related industry, including supervisory experience.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to influence across the organization.
- Broad interpersonal skills with ability to adjust communication style.
- Working knowledge of safety regulations and regulatory requirements (e.g., DOT 195 PHMSA, OSHA, state environmental regulations).
- Demonstrated knowledge of pipeline operations including tank farms, booster stations, and delivery facilities.

- Self‑motivated with a strong work ethic and a focus on growth.
- Bonus:
Bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering;
Colonial or pipeline industry experience; additional pipeline operations experience if no degree; desire for crisis management experience. - Live within a 60‑minute commute of the work location (90 minutes for previously grandfathered employees).
Physical ability to respond to emergency situations; normal job pressure with occasional high stress during emergency response, negotiations, and conflict resolution; field office environment, pipeline ROW, and operating areas; awareness of hazards associated with pipeline facilities and right of way.
