The Painter I is responsible for performing standard & advanced post process surface finishing operations such as support removal, sanding, media blasting, polishing, cosmetic and non-cosmetic paint, hole tapping, insert installation, and basic assembly to 3D printed parts to achieve desired aesthetics and functionality. Additional tasks include performing paint mixing and preparation, part count, quality inspection, and adhering to specific work orders and work instructions.

Adherence to strict safety protocols and maintaining a clean and organized work environment is required.

What you will be doing:
  • May prepare parts for finishing.
  • Mixes and prepares paint for painting parts to customer requirements.
  • Applies paint using basic paint finishes to customer requirements.
  • Reviews files of each part assigned and follows work order instructions and customer blueprints to ensure finished part meets customer requirements, with an understanding of build  the work order.
  • Uses a variety of electric and hand tools such as sanders to smooth surfaces and edges, drill to drill holes.
  • Performs finishing techniques for prototype models and production parts under minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of different material types and which finishing techniques are required for each.
  • Performs insert installation, hole tapping, and assembly.
  • Performs segment bonding on oversized parts.
  • Uses a variety of hand tools to touch up parts as needed before turning in finished work.
  • Performs basic 6-point inspection with minimal supervision where required.
  • Understands and uses Solid Jobs and Solid View.
  • Understands shipment schedule and shipment dates.
  • Complies with Quality Management System.
  • Follows all standard operating procedures for department and ISO, ITAR, and Aerospace requirements.
  • Maintains traceability of all parts in build by completing required paperwork and comparing quantity of the build to the order, and for serialization if needed.
  • Completes and properly signs off on all paperwork and computer work for each job.
  • Accurately reads and records information (i.e. material manufacture date, serial number, and other criteria) that is critical to the manufacturing process.
  • Observes and identifies faulty parts based on work orders.
  • Follows established production workflow for part traceability.
  • Addresses problems with parts and production with Lead/Supervisor.
  • Performs housekeeping and cleanup duties upon completion of assigned tasks.
    • Actively participates in housekeeping efforts by maintaining an orderly, clean, and safe work area.
  • Completes and signs off on all paperwork and computer work properly for each job.
  • Contributes to continuous improvement projects.
  • Strictly adheres to proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Must have for this role:
  • Intermediate Math skills.
  • Intermediate Computer experience (Microsoft Office and email).
  • Experience working with hands, specifically using fine motor skills.
  • Keen attention to details.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and craftsmanship.
  • 1-2 year of previous measurement experience using hand tools.
  • 1-2 year of previous experience working with shop equipment including drill press, hand drills, sanders, UV lighting, etc.
  • Ability to work well independently and or with a partner(s).Fast learner and willing to accept constant feedback to improve on performance to meet customers required results.
Nice to have:
  • 2+ year previous work experience in manufacturing end use parts.
  • Experience with precision measurement equipment a plus.
