Position Description
Employees in this classification are responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities at the Bell County Jail in Belton, TX. They work within their legal scope of practice and in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures. Work is performed under the direction of a registered nurse as part of a total correctional managed health care team in providing safe and competent care to patients.
Major/EssentialFunctions
- Reports data, identifies and reports alterations in patient responses to assist in the identification of problems and formulation of goals and outcomes.
- Prepares and operates necessary equipment and instruments for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Assists with or performs exams and procedures:
Assistance in exams and procedures is conducted within the LVN scope of practice. - Administer or assist with the administration of medications to patients:
Ensures patient medications are administered following clinical and compliance policies and procedures. - Assess and triage patient care requests:
Receives, documents, assesses, and responds to patient care requests according to policy and standards. - Performs nursing rounds as needed in all required areas.
- Other duties as assigned:
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in the job classification and/or position description.
Current Vocational Nurse License in the State of Texas, or ability to transfer license to Texas, or scheduled to complete a program of vocational nursing within 120 days of applying for a position. Current CPR certification. Graduated from an approved, accredited nursing program. New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX- PN) on the first attempt.
No experience required.
- Experience with electronic health records
- Previously worked in a dynamic health facility under the direction of supervising nurses.
- Experience in a correctional setting.
