Construction Superintendent – Interior Renovations
This role oversees day-to-day construction activities for interior renovation and fit-out projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project documents and client expectations. The superintendent coordinates field operations, manages subcontractors and materials, and supports project administration to deliver high-quality commercial construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all day-to-day responsibilities in the field for interior renovation and fit-out projects.
- Develop and manage project schedules, adjusting timelines as needed to keep work on track.
- Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, ensuring work quality, safety, and adherence to project plans.
- Order and schedule delivery of materials to align with project milestones and site requirements.
- Manage permits and ensure all required approvals are obtained and maintained throughout the project.
- Monitor project budgets and support cost control efforts to keep projects within financial targets.
- Assist with processing project paperwork and invoicing in a timely and accurate manner.
- Prepare and maintain meeting minutes to document decisions, action items, and project progress.
- Obtain and track Certificates of Insurance (COIs) from subcontractors and vendors as required.
- Support the preparation and administration of owner contracts and related documentation.
- Review and interpret construction documents to guide field activities and resolve issues.
- Prepare, review, and track Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify design and scope details.
- Manage change orders, including documentation, pricing, and communication with stakeholders.
- Oversee submittals and ensure they are reviewed, approved, and implemented in the field.
- Maintain accurate construction documentation, including logs, reports, and site records.
- Collaborate closely with the leadership team and project management to ensure alignment on project goals.
- Represent the project professionally on-site, maintaining strong relationships with clients and project partners.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience as a superintendent overseeing interior renovation and interior fit-out projects.
- Strong background in construction management, with hands-on field supervision experience.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from construction documents and specifications.
- Demonstrated experience in commercial construction environments.
- Proficiency in developing and maintaining construction schedules.
- Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multiple trades on active job sites.
- Knowledge of RFIs, change orders, submittals, and standard construction documentation processes.
- Solid understanding of permits, inspections, and regulatory requirements for construction projects.
- Ability to support budget management and cost control efforts on projects.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage paperwork, invoicing, and meeting documentation.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with project leadership, clients, and field teams.
- Detail-oriented approach to tracking COIs, contracts, and project records.

- Experience working on commercial interior fit-out projects is highly beneficial.
- Background in interior renovations within occupied or high-profile environments.

- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions in the field.
Work Environment
This position is based full time in the field in Beltsville, MD, working on active commercial construction job sites. The superintendent primarily operates from a job-site trailer or site office, closely engaged with daily construction activities and field teams.
