DescriptionThis is a Senior/SME position working for the Relay Encryption Operations team within Communication Security, providing network engineering expertise in support of the Vanguard 2025 program. The well-qualified candidate will possess and apply comprehensive knowledge regarding the engineering and implementation of network solutions. The candidate must be capable of planning and leading the testing, implementation, and maintenance of networking technologies and devices.
The candidate must be capable of evaluating performance results, performing risk assessments, and recommending changes affecting network configuration/implementation. The position directly supports DoS on-site to provide network engineering services.
- Works directly with the DoS customer to build, design, test and deploy enterprise network solutions utilizing network routers and switches.
- Develop and deploy network engineering solutions in compliance with Enterprise Architecture standards.
- Participate in peer review of network configuration change requests prior to deployment.
- Implementation of configuration changes.
- Tier III Support and Maintenance activities.
- Service Requests design, deploy, monitor, resolve, update and close service request tickets in Service Now.
- Documenting network infrastructure components, drawings using Visio.
- Assist in developing and documenting procedures and processes.
- Uses monitoring, performance analysis, network management, software and hardware equipment to troubleshoot and isolate problems, gauge performance and activity.
- May develop and execute contingency plans for network related hardware failures, including isolated and major outages.
- Bachelor’s degree in a computer science/computer engineering related discipline and 10+ years IT security/network engineering support experience (Engineering, Tier III, network infrastructure implementation and maintenance); may accept additional experience in lieu of degree.
- Solid understanding and analysis of network flows and OSI model.
- Experience designing and implementing large enterprise/global network solutions.
- Expert experience in BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, GRE, DMVPN, IPSEC, MACSEC, Multicast, Unicast.
- Expert experience with network platforms routers, switches, VPN concentrators, network management (ISR/ASR/Nexus) and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs).
- Expert knowledge of TCP/IP networking.
- Experience working directly with Government customer.
- Technical writing and documentation/diagram skills (MS Visio/MS Word/MS Excel).
- US Citizenship.
- Active secret clearance with the ability to obtain a top secret clearance.
- Cisco Certified Network Professional – CCNP, CCIE is desirable.
- Experience with Cloud technologies, Microsoft Azure/Amazon Web Services desirable.
- Familiar with network monitoring tools (Neural Star, Gem One, Chimera, VINE, HPNA, Splunk, Wire Shark).
- Ability to design, deploy, and maintain virtualized network environments using VMware technologies and be Skilled in integrating VMware virtual networks with physical network infrastructure.
- Proficient in configuring and managing VMware Distributed Switches (vDS) and virtual network interfaces.
- Proficient in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Power Shell to automate network tasks and workflows.
Target salary range $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
