Electrical Service Specialist

Overview

Our client, a leading Energy Management and Building Automation company, is hiring an Electrical Service Specialist / Technician. The role involves complex startup, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of medium and low voltage electrical power systems such as transformers, circuit breakers, switch gear, protective relays, motor control centers, VFDs, cable, metering, and backup power supplies.

Responsibilities
  • Lead basic to complex installation and checkout of electric and electronic components for system‑installed jobs and service agreements. Tasks include maintenance and testing of switch gear, motor controls, circuit breakers, panel boards, transformers, and surge protection devices.
  • Perform vibration analysis, metering, battery maintenance and testing, power monitoring, power quality, and protective relay maintenance.
  • Install wiring, connect to power source, troubleshoot power distribution products and third‑party equipment, and execute complex service upgrades, reconditioning, and retrofits for low‑voltage power distribution systems.
  • Provide onsite technical and operational support, conduct complex site surveys, and develop installation design plans.
  • Train customers and support staff on proper operation, routine inspections, and equipment maintenance; provide expert advice and technical assistance.
  • Prepare reports documenting all job activity and maintain complex tools, test equipment, and calibration items.
  • Plan and estimate labor categories, rates, material costs, and transportation expenses for proposals; review task plans, drawings, and schematics, and provide guidance throughout project duration.
  • Respond to emergency and relief assignments as needed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or state‑recognized GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical control circuits and obtaining thermography certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with electrical testing, including primary current injection, resistance testing, dielectric testing, and thermal scans on medium and low‑voltage systems.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience using electrical test sets for AC/DC high potential testing, transformer turns ratio and power factor testing, and other power system test practices.
  • Experience with interpreting protective coordination studies, testing and configuring protective relays.
  • Ability to read bills of material, electrical blueprints, and power system study reports.
  • Installation, commissioning, and maintenance of low and medium voltage power distribution systems.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Knowledge of arc flash and shock hazards of 13.8 kV and equipment such as Siemens GIS, AIS, WL, RL, and SB breakers and switch gear.
  • Familiarity with ANSI, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and NETA codes and standards.
  • Ability to carry equipment and tools weighing up to 75 pounds unassisted.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Minimum age 18 with a valid driver’s license and limited violations.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States on a permanent basis without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree.
  • AVO, NETA, and NICET certifications.
