Industrial Hygienist Position
SJS Executives, LLC (SJS), also doing business as SJS Industrial, is currently seeking a reliable, experienced, Certified Industrial Hygienist to potentially work full time for SJS Executives supporting a US Federal Facility in Beltsville, MD supporting ongoing Industrial Hygiene operations.
This position is contingent upon award of contract.
We are a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with 250 employees coast to coast and a headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia; we specialize in professional services to support federal and military organizations.
The salary for this position is expected to $62.50/hr (equivalent to $130,000 yearly). SJS also offers 11 paid federal holidays, 80 hours of PTO accrual, medical, dental, vision, and a variety of additional benefits.
Responsibilities:- Conduct routine safety, occupational health, and environmental exposure assessments across laboratories, greenhouses, animal facilities, industrial facilities, and administrative spaces in response to safety concerns or complaints.
- Perform workplace hazard evaluations and recommend corrective actions to ensure compliance with applicable safety and industrial hygiene standards.
- Conduct routine noise monitoring and hearing conservation assessments, including evaluation of exposure risks and recommendation of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Perform annual qualitative and quantitative respirator fit testing in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR and support the organization's Respiratory Protection Program.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive radiation safety program, including radiation waste assessments, waste characterization, storage evaluations, disposal recommendations, and compliance reporting.
- Create and manage radiation dosimetry program documentation, including standard operating procedures, personnel monitoring protocols, and dose-tracking processes.
- Respond to safety, occupational health, environmental, and hazardous material incidents involving chemical, biological, radiological, or industrial hazards.
- Provide on-call emergency response support for industrial hygiene and safety-related incidents on a 24/7 basis as required.
- Prepare timely, detailed, and accurate incident reports documenting findings, sampling results, corrective actions, and recommendations.
- Conduct annual reviews of safety, health, and environmental management programs, policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Perform gap analyses and recommend corrective actions to maintain compliance with applicable regulations and industry standards.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Occupational Medical Surveillance Program enrollment and assist employees and supervisors with enrollment procedures.
- Conduct annual industrial hygiene inspections of laboratories, facilities, and administrative spaces and maintain inspection documentation and compliance records.
- Serve as the Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO) and oversee the implementation and management of the Chemical Hygiene Plan.
- Manage chemical inventory systems and coordinate inventory collection with department or research personnel.
- Ensure the safe handling, storage, and use of hazardous chemicals through routine inspections, hazard assessments, employee training, and corrective action management.
- Maintain safety documentation, compliance records, and industrial hygiene program reports.
- Provide technical guidance and support regarding chemical safety, risk assessments, and workplace hazard mitigation.
- Collaborate with facility personnel, supervisors, and leadership teams to promote a safe and compliant work environment.
- Ensure all work activities comply with OSHA regulations, environmental health and safety standards, and recognized industrial hygiene best practices.
- In accordance with federal regulations, possession of a valid Real a requirement for this position.
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification required.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or another related STEM field required.
- Minimum of four years of full-time professional experience in industrial hygiene, occupational health, environmental health and safety, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience recognizing, evaluating, and controlling workplace hazards in laboratory, industrial, and administrative environments.
- Proven ability to make industrial hygiene and occupational safety decisions independently beyond technician-level responsibilities.
- Experience conducting workplace exposure assessments, environmental monitoring, and hazard mitigation activities.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, respiratory protection standards, hearing conservation programs, chemical hygiene practices, and radiation safety principles.
- Experience developing and implementing safety programs, policies, standard operating procedures, and compliance documentation.
