Job DescriptionReports to:
Chief of Human Resources Officer, Director of Quality Assurance or Building Principal.
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a General Administrative or Principal Endorsement (Type 75 or equivalent).
- At least five years of experience as a teacher, assistant principal, or principal.
- Knowledge of Illinois Learning Standards, instructional practices, and school improvement processes.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions quickly and maintain professionalism under pressure.

Basic FunctionThe Principal or Assistant Principal Substitute serves as the acting building administrator during the temporary absence of the principal or assistant principal. The individual is responsible for maintaining a safe, orderly, and effective school environment, ensuring the continuity of instructional programs, and providing leadership to staff and students in alignment with district policies and state requirements.
Performance Responsibilities- Serve as the acting building administrator during lack of the principal or assistant principal.
- Oversee daily operation of the school, ensuring adherence to district policies, schedules, and procedures.
- Maintain student supervision and safety in all areas of the school.
- Ensure staff have the needed resources and support to sustain normal operations.
- Support the continuation of instructional programs consistent with the school improvement plan.
- Provide guidance to teachers and staff to ensure instructional time and learning objectives are maintained.
- Collaborate with instructional staff to address student needs, monitor lesson plans, and maintain a focus on student achievement.
- Enforce school rules and district policies regarding student behavior and discipline.
- Handle student discipline issues fairly and consistently.
- Communicate with parents and staff regarding student behavior or attendance concerns as needed.
- Communicate effectively with staff, students, families, and district administration.
- Provide timely updates to district or building leadership regarding critical incidents or issues requiring follow-up.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Oversee attendance, supervision schedules, lunchroom and hallway monitoring, and emergency procedures.
- Ensure that all safety and crisis response protocols are followed in accordance with Illinois School Code and district policy.
- Manage substitute teacher coverage and scheduling adjustments as needed.
- Support completion of reports, staff communications, and documentation related to discipline, attendance, or incidents.
- Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations governing school operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Chief Human Resources Officer, or Director of Quality Assurance.
