LaSalle Network is partnering with a 100% employee-owned company that designs and manufactures automation assembly and test equipment for the life science, personal care, and food and beverage industries. They have an exciting opportunity for a Controls Engineer II at their Belvidere, IL facility.

This role is ideal for a controls engineering professional with a strong hardware design background who thrives in a hands‑on, collaborative environment. The Controls Engineer II is responsible for developing and maintaining electrical and pneumatic designs for automated assembly and testing equipment. This position requires a minimum of 6 years' experience in Controls Engineering with hands‑on experience designing electrical panels and pneumatics.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze design requirements and develop electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and bills of material (BOMs)
  • Create clear, cost‑effective electrical and pneumatic designs that meet customer performance, quality, cost, and delivery expectations
  • Generate complete and accurate documentation to support manufacturing and field integration, including detailed drawings and schematics
  • Identify and recommend improvements to tools, processes, and workflows to reduce design errors and improve efficiency
  • Perform electrical rework on existing systems and support machine builders with troubleshooting and technical questions
  • Review and check peer hardware designs for accuracy, cost optimization, and standardization opportunities
  • Inspect completed machinery to ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, UL, CE, and applicable industry standards
  • Utilize ERP systems to create and maintain BOMs, generate work orders, build routers, and release materials to purchasing
  • Modify electrical schematics and BOMs to support field changes, retrofits, and continuous improvement efforts
  • Select electrical and pneumatic components that align with machine functionality, safety requirements, and budget constraints
  • Design machine safety circuits in accordance with risk assessments and applicable safety standards
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering OR equivalent combination of education and hands‑on experience in automation or industrial machinery
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience focused on hardware design for industrial controls systems
  • Strong experience with AutoCAD Electrical or Solid Works Electrical for schematic development and panel design
  • Proficiency in developing one‑line diagrams, control schematics, and panel layouts
  • Working knowledge of electrical and machinery standards including NFPA 79, NEC, UL 508A, ISO 12100, and related safety standards
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and 3D CAD models
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on reducing errors, minimizing rework, and improving overall design quality
  • Practical understanding of component selection, panel layout, and real‑world build considerations
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with mechanical engineers, machine builders, and project teams
