Cloud Management Devops Engineer

Project Scope / Components:

• OCC – focus on assets that are in Azure and AWS. Customer assets, contract assets
• Will be more operational versus technical – look at data and know how to drive utilization etc.
• This role will act as the Dev Ops engineer on a cloud management team tasked with leveraging and contributing to the Optum Connect Cloud (OCC) products and services.
• Will be primarily focused on identifying areas to improve cloud infrastructure/management to increase savings

High-Level Individual Duties:

• Evaluating a toolset and providing recommendations
• Will only be working on cloud capacity/infrastructure management. Will need to identify what can be done within the environment to increase cost savings
• Writing POCs – will help to identify various tools that can be implemented such as Flexera and Service Now
• Will NOT be doing any migrations, deployments, provisioning, etc.

Must-Haves (Concepts & Tools):

• Infrastructure background – 5+ years of experience
• Need someone who can be a decision maker
• Understanding of various cloud management tools – breadth and depth
• Turbonomics, Cloudgenera, Flexera, etc. some of the tools they’ll be considering
• Azure – at least 2 years of experience

Nice-to-Haves (Concepts & Tools):

• AWS – this would be a huge plus

Description:

Position Description The Cloud Management Devops Engineer (CMDE) is responsible for developing assessment, reviews and analyze customer Hybrid-cloud services. CMDE is an expert in cloud and cloud related technologies as well as information technology operating models. They will have the skills to deploy management services within Azure. This role will act as the devops engineer on a cloud management team tasked with leveraging and contributing to the Optum Connect Cloud (OCC) products and services.

Additionally, this Subject Matter Expert (SME) will be responsible for collaborating with others on OCC services, pipelines, and cloud management. Exposure to the business model of a cloud reseller and what it takes to provide typical services is key.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Experience implementing and operating a Cloud Management Platform
• Maintain a current understanding of mainstream as well as emerging cloud technologies including the capabilities and costs associated with private and public cloud infrastructure, platform, and software as a service model
• Become educated on Intel-based Cloud Solutions, and the advantages of Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services through the following means:
• Attend at least one Intel Cloud training in the quarter to learn about latest solutions and offerings
• Utilize Intel Partner University, where appropriate to get trained
• Attend and participate in Intel scheduled meeting with peers to discuss latest, shared learnings, and help as needed
• Coordinate the assessment and review of Optum’s current Azure instance type data in order to inform the evaluation of a potential Intel-based POC/Migration program by:
• Work with Optum sales and the cloud delivery team to identify and document 3-5 Optum team members to do an assessment, workshop, or engagement to migrate a customer to an Intel Solution as Azure or AWS
• Facilitate Optum’s provision of its Azure instance type data to an Intel solution and help organize and improve Optum’s tracking of cloud consumption
• Facilitate a quarterly report to necessary stakeholders in regard to the required data points for the given quarter
• Assessments, reviews, and analysis will be completed by the CMDE monthly unless otherwise directed
• Assessment and review activities include updating cost models, technology usage governance, service level standards, security policies and transformation priorities related to workload resizing, rehosting and life-cycle management services
• Analysis activities will include generating workload placement and transformation scorecards outlining business cases for spend optimization and risk reduction
• Develop tools produced through devops, gitops, and immutable methodologies that will automate the deployment, hardening and policy configuration of cloud infrastructure for use by our partnering cloud application and infrastructure teams
