Position: Fixed-Term Asst or Assoc Prof of Business Admin - Financial Planning / Finance

Job Description

Bemidji State University (BSU) invites qualified applicants to join our team as a Fixed‑Term Assistant or Associate Professor of Business Administration and Financial Planning / Finance
. This position is primarily teaching‑focused with expectations for student engagement and reasonable expectations for scholarly/professional activity.

Responsibilities
  • Leading and developing the Financial Planning Program at BSU and supporting its advancement toward CFP Board Registered status.
  • Developing an internship program with corporate donors and finance professionals for student enrichment.
  • Teaching undergraduate courses in Financial Planning and Corporate Finance, including:
    Financial Management, Real Estate, Risk Management and Insurance, Behavioral Investing and Portfolio Management.
  • Contributing to scholarship, advising students, and performing other faculty duties.
  • Designing and delivering courses for on‑campus and online platforms.
  • Advising and supporting students’ academic progress.
  • Contributing to a collegial and supportive environment that advances departmental goals, including curriculum development and assessment.
  • Engaging in interdisciplinary teaching and supporting BSU’s Shared Fundamental Values.
  • Assisting with programmatic accreditation.

Salary Range

Depends on Qualifications ($64,963 – $188,620)

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree (including an MBA) in Finance, Financial Planning, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution. ABD and doctoral candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching and student development.
  • Ability to teach in multiple modalities (online, HyFlex/Multimodal, and in‑person) or a willingness to develop these skills.
  • Interest in and commitment to diverse cultures and populations.
  • Strong interest in engaging with business and industry to ensure courses remain current and career‑relevant.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD or DBA in Financial Planning, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification.
  • Industry experience in Financial Planning.
  • Industry experience or research expertise in AI, GenAI, or related areas.
  • Experience teaching Financial Planning and Finance courses.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring students.
  • Experience guiding a financial planning program through CFP Board registration.
  • Demonstrated history of building relationships with business and industry.
  • Commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti‑racism.
Other Requirements
  • Must be lawfully able to accept employment in the United States. The University does not offer H1‑B sponsorship.
  • Official transcripts must be provided to Human Resources upon hire.
  • Employment is covered by the Inter‑Faculty Organization collective bargaining agreement.
  • Faculty who drive on business will be required to complete a vehicle Use Agreement and comply with vehicle safety criteria.
  • BSU and NTC are tobacco‑free workplaces.
