Asst or Assoc Prof of Business Admin - Financial Planning​/Finance

Position Overview

Fixed‑Term Assistant or Associate Professor of Business Administration – Financial Planning / Finance, Bemidji State University. The role is primarily teaching‑focused with expectations for student engagement, scholarly activity, and program development.

• Lead and develop the Financial Planning Program toward CFP Board Registered status.
• Develop internship programs with corporate donors and finance professionals.
• Teach undergraduate courses including Financial Management, Real Estate, Risk Management and Insurance, Behavioral Investing, Portfolio Management, and Corporate Finance.
• Contribute to a scholarship program, advise students, and serve community and departmental duties.
• Design and deliver courses for on‑campus, online, and HyFlex modalities.
• Advise and support students’ academic progress.
• Support collegial environment through curriculum development, assessment, and governance activities.
• Engage in interdisciplinary teaching and support BSU’s Shared Fundamental Values.
• Assist with programmatic accreditation.

• Master’s degree (including an MBA) in Finance, Financial Planning, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
• ABD and doctoral candidates encouraged to apply.
• Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching and student development.
• Ability to teach in multiple modalities (online, HyFlex/Multimodal, in‑person).
• Interest and commitment to diverse cultures and populations.
• Strong interest in engaging with business and industry to keep courses current and career‑relevant.

• PhD or DBA in Financial Planning, Finance, or a closely related field.
• Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification.
• Industry experience in Financial Planning.
• Industry experience or research expertise in AI, GenAI, or related areas.
• Experience teaching Financial Planning and Finance courses.
• Experience coaching and mentoring students.
• Experience leading a financial planning program through CFP Board registration.
• Proven ability to build relationships with business and industry.
• Commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti‑racism.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of offer.
• Acceptance of a vehicle use agreement if driving on college/university business.
