Instructor for Government/Military Program - Concordia Language Villages

The Instructor in a Concordia Language Villages Government/Military program is responsible for instruction and overall implementation of a language-specific iso-immersion program as guided by the Lead Instructor/Program Coordinator. This includes planning and implementation of a variety of program elements, and may also include public relations, and interaction with the support staff from the operations areas at the Language Villages. The Instructor is responsible for implementing program elements that reflect the mission and immersion principles/methodology of Concordia Language Villages, that align with the parameters of the Concordia military pedagogical model, and that are in accordance with the expressed needs of the client.

The Instructor reports to the respective Lead Instructor and to the administrative team of Concordia Language Villages as a whole.

Note:

We often develop customized language programs for our partners and have offered or proposed programs in languages such as Dari, Croatian, Hebrew, Norwegian, Pashto, Portuguese, Ukrainian, Urdu. If you are interested in teaching a language not listed, please feel free to submit an application and indicate your area of expertise.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Superior (at minimum) proficiency in the target language/dialects and Advanced(minimum) proficiency English
  • Commitment to the importance of immersion language and culture education
  • Knowledge of effective teaching strategies and methodologies for second language learning in an immersion setting for adults
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • B.A. degree required, with advanced degree preferred
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the instructor position (see job description)
  • Availability for all session dates noted in the application
  • Eligibility to be employed legally in the USA; candidate assumes responsibility and costs for any visa requirements
  • Sympathy with the mission of a liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of and experience with language proficiency rating scales (ILR and ACTFL) and the LTI's Oral Proficiency Test (OPI)
  • Experience with content-based language instruction for adults
  • Experience teaching in a Concordia Language Villages program or in a comparable language immersion environment
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems such as Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard and Google Classroom
  • Advanced degree in a related field
  • Salary: 1,500 USD Stipend per week

    The final salary will be determined based on factors such as education, experience, skills, certifications, and alignment with the position's requirements. Other considerations may include internal equity and market conditions.
