Position: ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

ROLE OVERVIEW

This position is responsible for directing the financial activities, including maintaining adequate and proper ledger accounts of all assets, liabilities and transactions of the divisional company and ensuring that audits are performed. It manages the development and administration of the company’s financial operating plan and five-year forecasts, and prepares and reports financial results that conform to generally accepted accounting principles. The role interacts with executives, managers, supervisors, sales personnel and department heads.

The typical schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

COMPENSATION

The average salary is $100,000 – $120,000 annually.

DUTIES AND OR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Direct the accounting and financial activities of the company, including preparing journal entries and other accounting transactions affecting general ledger accounts; ensure G/L accounts are maintained and account balances reconciled.
  • Direct the preparation of monthly financial statements, interpret financial results for executive, management and operations personnel, and assist with analytical reviews.
  • Direct processes to ensure accounting controls are adequate for the protection of assets and the reliability of financial and management information reporting.
  • Actively participate in the company‑wide controller group to establish standard procedures and practices where applicable.
  • Manage the accounting department for the divisional company, including staffing needs and career development.
  • Provide assistance and analysis on special projects, due diligence, benefit plan analysis or other financial activities as needed.
  • Oversee internal and external auditing, coordinating documentation for substantive and controls testing and collaborating with auditors to mitigate risk and ensure accuracy in reporting.
  • Prepare and maintain accounting procedures and policies conforming with corporate standards.
  • Serve as a business partner to operations, analyzing financial result trends, watching for opportunities, and preparing for risks.
  • Direct payroll processes to ensure legal, accurate, and compliant data in line with financial controls and reporting.
  • Always work safely and take action to prevent any unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
  • Travel occasionally, with potential increases for special projects or assignments requiring meetings, job‑site visits, and business‑related functions.
  • Maintain confidentiality to the highest degree and possess excellent analytical abilities and team‑building skills.
  • Maintain the highest level of moral and ethical standards at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Advanced computer skills using spreadsheets, presentations, databases, and accounting software.
  • Advanced knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience in general ledger accounting and auditing; financial forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with Sarbanes‑Oxley compliance requirements (desired).
  • Professional communication skills, both written and verbal, for internal and external customers.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Five years of related experience in accounting management/finance.
  • Strong, proven analytical and financial skills.
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to manage, lead, motivate, and mentor employees.
  • High ethical and moral standards.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
