About the RoleWatermark Art Center serves as a hub for exhibitions, arts experiences, and community connection in Bemidji and the surrounding region. The Executive Director will serve as the organization’s chief executive leader and primary public ambassador, working in close partnership with the Board of Directors to advance Watermark’s mission, artistic excellence, financial sustainability, and community engagement. This full‑time, exempt position is based in Bemidji, Minnesota, and requires an in‑person leadership presence.
Responsibilities- Provide strategic and organizational leadership
- Lead fundraising and revenue diversification efforts
- Oversee financial planning and stewardship
- Support and supervise staff
- Ensure the quality and accessibility of exhibitions and programs
- Strengthen community relationships
- Support effective board governance
- Leadership experience in a nonprofit, arts, cultural, or community‑based organization
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, financial management, and staff development
- Strong communication skills, ability to build trust across diverse communities, and appreciation for artists and exhibitions
- Experience working in or with rural regional communities is strongly valued
The salary range for the position is $55,000 to $60,000, with a benefits package to be discussed with finalists.
