Job SummaryManages nursing home staff and nursing activities, including resident care and record‑keeping. Manages nursing staff assigned to a particular shift within the nursing home. Takes action regarding provision of resources within the context of shifts or designated time frame. Assigns residents to available nursing staff, taking into consideration the resident’s condition and the employee’s skill level. Measures employee performance. Assists in the training of new staff members and the development of existing staff members.
Monitors resident care areas and other nursing home facilities for cleanliness and readiness. Provides nursing care to nursing home residents on an as‑needed basis. May administer oxygen, basic life support (BLS), possible IVs, or medications as prescribed by a provider. Knowledge of clinical practices, strategic planning, administrative, and financial principles. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
- Manage nursing home staff and nursing activities, including resident care and record‑keeping.
- Coordinate nursing staff assignments for specific shifts, ensuring appropriate skill level for resident conditions.
- Evaluate employee performance and support staff development.
- Train new staff and mentor existing staff members.
- Ensure cleanliness and readiness of resident care areas and other facilities.
- Provide nursing care as needed, including administration of oxygen, BLS, IVs, and medications.
- Apply knowledge of clinical practices, strategic planning, administrative, and financial principles.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing required; graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program preferred.
- Three years of nursing management experience, with at least two years at manager or higher level.
- One year of long‑term or subacute care experience required.
- Knowledge of the nursing practice act and standards of nursing care.
- Working knowledge of administrative and management techniques.
- Current, unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where practicing; multistate licensure in an NLC state acceptable.
- Ability to obtain and maintain department‑specific competencies and certifications.
- Employees without a bachelor’s degree may be considered for an educational plan toward a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing within five years of hire.
