Carpenter – Bemidji State University
• Classification:
Carpenter – Full‑time (non‑exempt) – Classified, Unlimited
• Salary: $29.93 – $34.52 per hour (depends on qualifications)
Responsibilities- Perform skilled rough and finished carpentry work including construction, maintenance, and repair of building components, furniture, and fixtures.
- Build, fit, and fasten door frames, trim, cabinets, and other interior trim; prepare and hang doors; repair walls, windows, desks, and other structures.
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and drawings; prioritize and complete projects according to specifications in a timely manner.
- Remodel large areas within university buildings, including removal and construction of walls, cabinet countertops, tables, bookcases, and shelving.
- Perform painting, finishing, sanding, and surface preparation work on walls, ceilings, and woodwork; apply laminate, fiberglass boards, and other finishes.
- Work from scaffolding and ladders; conduct concrete, tile grouting, and masonry repair to maintain building and equipment condition.
- Assist with building and grounds work, including snow removal, mowing, operating equipment and supporting mechanical repairs.
- Move items, deliver materials, and help with special event set‑ups as directed by the supervisor.
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship in carpentry, or equivalent experience: three‑and‑one‑half years of experience, or vocational/technical program in carpentry plus two years experience, etc.
- All experience must include rough and finish carpentry.
- Ability to read and understand construction plans, blueprints, and specifications.
- Ability to build, repair, and install cabinets, Formica, floors, windows, door frames, ceilings, interior trim, steel stud framing, furniture, fixtures, etc.
- Proficiency with hand and power carpentry tools and equipment.
- Record‑keeping and shop‑math skills for estimating labor and material costs.
- Organizational and supervisory skills to instruct and monitor less‑skilled employees.
- Successful criminal background check conducted through the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
- Completion of a vocational/technical program in carpentry.
- Five years or greater experience in commercial construction or an institutional setting.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti‑racism.
- Work Shift:
Unlimited full‑time, Monday‑Friday 7:00a.m.–3:30p.m., with occasional emergency duties. - Telework:

Moving up to 50 lbs, frequent travel within campus, observation of safety hazards. - Environmental Conditions:
Frequent exposure to mechanical parts, noise; occasional weather exposure.
