The Medical Assistant performs basic direct patient care activities, such as lab tests, treatments, and medication/immunization administration under the direction of the Nurse and/or physician. The incumbent also carries out clerical, quality control and performance improvement initiatives in support of the physician practice.
Essential Job Functions- Deliver direct and indirect patient care in accordance with hospital/physician practice policies.
- Collect patient health data, including vital signs, weight, chief complaint, and pain assessment.
- Complete patient care treatments and testing as ordered.
- Ensure documentation completeness, accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Communicate pertinent information of actual or potential problems to the physician or nurse.
- Perform clerical functions in support of patient care and office functions.
- Answer telephone calls, take accurate messages and relay them to appropriate staff.
- Obtain and verify accurate patient demographic and insurance information and enter it into the billing system.
- Accurately enter diagnosis‑based codes and charges into the billing system.
- Complete necessary forms and letters for continued patient care.
- Ensure patient safety by adhering to policies and infection control processes.
- Label all patient specimens with identifiers per policy.
- Assist in continuous survey readiness and quality control monitoring.
- Practice National Patient Safety Goals consistently.
- Schedule surgery, procedures, and testing for patients.
- Provide exit counseling and education including scheduling of testing.
- Prepare charts for clinic sessions and obtain vital signs and weight.
- Perform control studies and maintain log books according to policy.
- Prepare exam rooms and stock supplies daily.
- Provide pre‑ and post‑examination education and counseling.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Strong leadership, organization, independent critical‑thinking, and sound judgment.
- Excellent communication skills for conveying complex topics.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel).
- Previous outpatient office experience.
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
- Act 33 renewal
- Act 34 renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance
- Friends & Family CPR
