Payroll Technician
(Temporary)
Wage: $29-$30 per hour
Location: Bend, OR
Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8am-5pm
Length: One Month
SummaryThe Payroll Technician performs skilled payroll accounting and data‑entry functions to ensure employees are compensated accurately and on time. This role verifies payroll rates, hours, and retroactive payments; maintains financial and technical records; and applies sound judgment when identifying discrepancies or unusual activity. Success in this position requires strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and a solid understanding of payroll processes and regulations.
Responsibilities- Processes payroll, benefits, and related transactions in compliance with federal and state regulations and County policies
- Compiles, reviews, and verifies payroll, benefits, and related data for accuracy and completeness
- Reviews documents for compliance and determines appropriate payroll handling
- Checks payroll and benefits documents; reconciles transactions, records, and adjustments
- Processes employee timesheets, vacation and sick leave hours, and other payroll information
- Collects payroll, benefits, retirement, and administrative information and compiles data for reporting
- Calculates and reports federal and state payroll taxes; reconciles quarterly payroll tax information
- Maintains strict confidentiality and demonstrates professionalism in all interactions
- Performs additional duties as needed to support business operations
- County organization, operations, policies, and procedures
- General accounting standards, policies, procedures, and regulations
- Payroll accounting rules, regulations, methods, and procedures
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Applying accounting standards, procedures, and applicable federal and state payroll regulations
- Verifying and reconciling payroll information and maintaining accurate documentation and reports
- Researching and evaluating payroll and benefits issues, policies, and procedures
- Meeting strict deadlines and time frames for payroll processing and benefits enrollments
- Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field
- Three years of accounting experience
- Experience with retroactive payments
