Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Communications Director, Editor, Journalist w/ Graphic Designer Skills

Are you a traditionally trained journalist with a powerful command of modern multimedia platforms?

The Sunriver Owners Association (SROA) is seeking a creative and driven multimedia journalist to lead its Communications Department. This is your chance to be the primary storyteller for the beautiful residential and resort community of Sunriver, Oregon.

You will be the voice of the SROA – an organization that operates much like a city hall – communicating vital information and engaging stories to both Sunriver property owners and the thousands of tourists who visit our community each year. You'll work in close collaboration with other key departments, including Natural Resources, Recreation, Public Works and Community Development.

A Week in the Life

This is a hands-on role where no two days may be the same. You will lead the department while also producing a wide variety of content across all our platforms, which include a monthly community newspaper (Sunriver Scene), websites and email notifications.

Your work week may start with designing a brochure to promote our recreation facilities or building a compelling PowerPoint presentation for the general manager.

From there, you could find yourself:
  • Writing a news article for the Sunriver Scene, the website, or mass email notification.
  • Designing a road sign, a community map, or an event poster.
  • Attending monthly board meetings, including one Saturday a month.
  • Leading the Communications Work Group or participating in a task force.
  • Checking in with other department heads on ways to assist them (creating educational materials, story in the Scene, eblast, etc.).
  • Whipping up a timely post for social media.
  • Driving around the community in a company van to fill newspaper racks.
  • Editing and managing submitted stories from approximately 25 volunteer contributors and other news sources.
Required Skills & Qualification

We are looking for a true professional who can manage a department, community brand and budget while also excelling at hands-on creation.

Core Experience & Leadership
  • Journalism: Minimum three to five years of experience in journalism writing and layout design (newspaper or magazine).
  • Editing: Expert level APStyle writing and copy editing skills.
  • Multimedia: Skillful photography and editing capabilities. Video skills a bonus.
  • Supervision: Proven supervisory skills to manage staff members (one full time, the other a quarter time).
  • Finance: Experience preparing an annual departmental budget, managing an annual marketing budget, and utilizing Quick Books for advertising billing.
  • Advertising: Ability to create advertisements, if needed.
Technical Toolkit
  • OS: Mac power user.
  • Design: Adobe Creative Suite power user (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.).
  • Web: Proficiency with website CMS platforms.
  • Office: Practiced in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Social: Experience with social media design and posting.
  • Graphic Design: Ability to design a newspaper, signage, flyers, brochures and other graphics.
The Good Stuff
  • This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position.
  • Full benefits package including employer paid medical insurance, generous paid leave, 401k with employer match and profit share, longevity bonus, access to recreation amenities for the entire family (pools, fitness, disc golf, tennis & pickleball courts).
  • An incredible work setting in Sunriver, a top-tier outdoor destination with biking, hiking, skiing and river access at your doorstep and an incomparable team to spend your days with.
