Position Details
Part‑time instructor position, non‑represented and non‑benefited. Hourly rate: $752 per load unit.
Primary PurposeThe Part‑time instructor provides instruction to students in the Dental Assisting program, directs student discussion, and evaluates student performance in the classroom.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide instruction in the area of discipline using approved course outcome guides.
- Hold at least one scheduled office hour per class per week for student help sessions.
- Utilize College tools and resources, including the Learning Management System and Disability Services software.
- Participate in course assessment.
- Perform other essential job functions as assigned.
- Provide instruction, guidance, and assessment in lab and clinic settings within the Dental Assisting Program, including didactic instruction in the classroom or online.
- Courses that may be taught include Infection Control, Basic and Advanced Dental Assisting, Dental Materials, Preventive Dentistry, Dental Science, Oral Medicine, and Dental Radiology. Part‑time instruction requires approximately 25 contact hours per month.
- Assist and direct students in the onsite Dental Clinic; order and maintain supplies, supervise patient care, and maintain sterilization and equipment standards.
- Thorough knowledge in the field of General Dental Assisting and ability to apply this knowledge.
- Adapt and use a variety of teaching and assessment techniques, including technology.
- Observe, direct, and oversee students ensuring safety.
- Present curriculum concepts to diverse students.
- Effective use of Microsoft Office suite and course management systems.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and community members.
- Provide non‑discriminatory services to all students.
- Review and apply concepts presented in training and professional literature.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff.
- Travel and teach at various hours and campus locations as required.
- Foster a collaborative atmosphere among students and faculty.
- Excellent oral, written, and electronic communication skills.
Ability to work in classroom and office environments using computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. Exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials; hepatitis B vaccination offered at no cost.
Required Certifications- Current CDA (Certified Dental Assistant) certification from DANB.
- Current Oregon Board of Dentistry Radiology Certification.
- Current Oregon Board of Dentistry EFDA (Expanded Functions Dental Assistant) certification.
Applicants who do not meet minimum qualifications but possess equivalent skills or experience will be considered. Applicants should indicate equivalency in the application.
Preferred Qualifications- Graduate from an accredited Dental Assisting program.
- Teaching experience in a dental assisting program or dental office.
- Current CPR certification.
- Current immunizations required by the Dental Assisting Program.
