Job Purpose:

The Dental Director is responsible for the administrative and clinical oversight of all operations of The Dental Clinic at Waterfall Community Health Center as well as the provision of professional, high-quality dental treatment and education to a broad range of patient abilities and ages. Responsibilities include patient care, supervision of dental staff, compliance with regulatory agencies/requirements (e.g., OSHA, DPH, JCAHO), development and implementation of policies and procedures governing all aspects of clinical and administrative operations, infection control, quality assurance, equipment maintenance, patient complaints, incident reporting, strategic and business planning for the dental program and evaluation of dental program financial performance.

Supervisory

Responsibilities
  • Supervise Dental Department staff, which includes Hygienists, Dental Assistants and Patient Services Representatives
  • Ensure clinic’s compliance with all regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, DPH, JCAHO)
  • Develop, implement, and maintain dental policies and procedures related to clinical operations.
  • Oversee the clinic’s Quality Assurance Program
  • Oversee the clinic’s Infection Control Program
  • Oversee protocols for the maintenance of all clinical equipment.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain clinical protocols for the delivery of patient care services.
  • Develop protocols for the management and resolution of patient complaints.
  • Develop and oversee the system used to report and resolve incidents within the dental program.
  • Review weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial and productivity data for the dental program.
  • Develop and implement action plans to address negative variances from departmental goals.
  • At least annually, review and revise as necessary the payer mix, fee schedules, and departmental financial and productivity goals to ensure they continue to contribute positively to the profitability of the dental program.
  • Assume overall responsibility for the financial performance of the dental program.
  • Provide clinical and administrative leadership of the dental program.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Participate in the Clinical Quality Improvement and Quality Management meetings and other meetings as requested by supervisor and/or Senior Leadership Team
  • Promote individual and organizational integrity by exhibiting ethical behavior to maintain high standards.

  • Maintain full appointment schedule for office practice and other settings.
  • Meet patient needs as they arise.
  • Utilize state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment techniques and delegates and refer care as appropriate.
  • Maintain necessary credentialing, licensure, and continuing education requirements.
  • Provide a full range of general dental services within the dentist’s defined scope of training.
  • Obtain and record client’s dental health history; evaluate patients’ intraoral & peri-oral hard and soft tissue condition; including caries, endodontic/periodontal pathology, soft tissue, and developmental pathology.
  • Develop patient treatment plans; including preventive, endodontic, periodontal, restorative and follow up care.
  • Provide and prescribe medications within area of specialty.
  • Establish and maintain client medical charts and other necessary records.
  • Advance and maintain personal knowledge base by pursuing continuing education in order to enhance professional competence.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited dental school with a Degree in Dentistry; DDS/DMD
  • 3 years’ experience preferred.
  • Unrestricted License in State of Oregon
  • Current DEA Certificate without restrictions
  • Language

    Skills:

    Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to be credentialed with Medicaid, Medicare, private and other insurance.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality health care for low income, ethnically diverse populations.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Graduate from an accredited dental school with a Doctoral Degree (DDS/DMD)
  • Oregon State dental license
  • DEA certification
  • BLS certification
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention Comprehensive training class completed within 6 months of hire and recertify prior to the expiration date.
Immunizations
  • TB test (upon hire)
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting, bending and/or leaning over patients, or standing at workstation using a computer.
  • Repetitive use of hands and handheld tools of the trade.
  • Able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
  • Able to travel as needed.
