Neurosurgeons are responsible for the medical, surgical, and postoperative management of patients undergoing orthopedic surgery. The role includes performing elective and acute surgeries at Bend hospital, Cascade Surgi Center, and Bend Surgery Center, as well as providing clinic care and collaborating with Advanced Practice Providers.
Physicians will work approximately 32 patient‑facing hours per week as a 1.0 full‑time equivalent (FTE), with a blend of hospital rounding, procedural block time, and scheduled clinic visits. Call responsibility is shared equally among participating surgeons.
Essential Functions and DutiesClinical Expectations: Examines, diagnoses, and treats a broad spectrum of neurosurgical conditions, including conservative care and surgical interventions. Orders and interprets diagnostic studies, administers and prescribes medication, and provides patient education. Performs emergency procedures when on call and maintains comprehensive patient records.
Administrative Expectations: Documents all patient care in the Electronic Medical Record, completes required billing tasks, participates in SCMG physician meetings, and maintains current CME activity to meet board certification and privilege requirements.
Behavioral Expectations: Creates a healing environment, upholds professionalism and confidentiality, delivers courteous patient service, and adheres to all applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
Education and TrainingGraduation from an accredited medical school, completion of an accredited neurosurgery residency, and additional training necessary to maintain privileges rles Health System. Board eligibility or certification in neurosurgery required.
Licensure, Certification, and RegistrationOregon medical license (MD/DO). Board certified or eligible in neurosurgery, with a requirement to attain certification within seven years if not yet certified. Current ATLS certification, valid driver’s license, unrestricted DEA number, and unrestricted participation in Medicare/Medicaid programs.
ExperienceExperience in hospital and outpatient neurosurgery practice environments.
General RequirementsExcellent communication and teamwork skills, ability to work independently and multitask, high attention to detail, proficiency with Electronic Medical Record systems, and intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
Physical RequirementsIncludes use of clear audible voice (75% of time), sitting/standing/walking, lifting up to 10 pounds frequently, occasional bending and reaching, and rare vehicle operation. No exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and no requirement to lift >25 pounds.
ScheduleWeekly hours: 40. Regular caregiver type. Position exempt.
