The Clinical Education Department is a system-wide support service that provides education, clinical practice support, and professional development opportunities for nursing, allied health, medical staff, and community partners rles Health System. The department, including the Central Area Health Education Center (AHEC) program, exists to attract talent, grow and retain talent, and improve the quality of care through various educational and training initiatives.
Position OverviewThe Medical Director of Clinical Education, in a collaborative leadership role known as a dyad with the Director of Clinical Education, leads the Clinical Education department role aligns education programs and partnerships with strategic and operational goals, maximizes common processes, uses evidence‑based education, fosters a learning culture, ensures sustainability, measures success, and maintains compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Provide physician oversight and direction for essential physician, provider, student, resident, and continuing education programs, including CME, provider education strategy, and related policy updates.
- Support PDSA‑based learning structures such as M&Ms, RCAs, case reviews, and other retrospective learning structures; champion innovation in simulations, drills, and other methods to reduce and prevent harm.
- Collaborate with medical staff leaders and safety/quality or best‑practice committees to promote evidence‑based practice and reduce unwarranted variation in clinical care.
- Ensure compliance with educational contracts with external institutions and develop new contracts as needed.
- Serve as system support for Three Sisters Family Medicine Residency in Madras, participate in SCHS‑OHSU sponsorship meetings, and ensure internal residency program residents are supported across the system.
- Act as a resource for compensation aspects of employed or contracted physicians and providers involved in teaching and learning activities, liaisoning with provider compensation committee and staff.
- Support the organization’s vision, mission, values, and continuous‑improvement principles; champion change and maintain the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Maintain a physically and psychologically safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests; practice Culture of Excellence‑based leadership.
- Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; support corporate integrity and investigate violations.
- Required:
MD/DO/PHD/PsyD - Preferred:
Experience in graduate medical education; MPH/MHA/MHPE/MMedEd. - Required:
Valid license with the Oregon Medical Board; current board certification in specialty. - Required:
Medical staff member in good standing at one or more SCHS hospitals.
- Required:
Minimum five (5) years of inpatient and outpatient clinical practice. - Preferred:
Additional postgraduate training or experience in UGME/GME and experience in Medical Staff Governance.
- Travel:
Expected to be in person when required; may involve intermittent travel to hospitals and facilities throughout the SCHS system. - Success Criteria:
Annual goals and targets will be co‑developed between the Medical Director and the reporting leader. - Personal Protective Equipment:
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE required to perform the job safely. - Physical Requirements:
Includes speaking, sitting, standing, walking, lifting (various weights), and operating a motor vehicle as described. - Exposure to Elemental Factors:
Heat, cold, wet/slippery area, noise, dust, vibration, chemical solution, uneven surface. - Blood‑Borne Pathogen (BBP) Exposure Category:
