The COCC Geology department is blessed with a spectacular collection of rocks, minerals and fossils. These objects could be of tremendous educational value, not just to COCC Geology students but also to our larger community. K‑12 educators frequently contact our Geology department looking for educational resources such as rocks/minerals/fossils. However, the collection is poorly organized, and therefore difficult to use. It can take hours just to find a handful of rocks for a useful rock kit.
The end result is that most of the collection never sees the light of day. Sad! So, we would like to employ a student to organize the rock/mineral/fossil collection and make it useful.
Student will organize rocks, minerals and fossils in the COCC Geology department collection, creating a labeled and accessible rock library. Many rocks/minerals/fossils currently lack labels, so the student will also have to correctly identify common rocks, minerals and fossils.
