The Construction Pre‑Apprenticeship Part‑Time Instructor provides instruction to students in the Construction Pre‑Apprenticeship program, directs student discussion, and evaluates student performance in the classroom. Instruction may occur at various campus locations or online.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction in the discipline using approved course outcome guides, accommodating different schedules, including early morning, evening, or weekend classes.
  • Hold at least one scheduled office hour per class per week for student help sessions and program assistance.
  • Utilize college tools and resources, including the Learning Management System and Disability Services software, to support teaching activities.
  • Participate in course assessment.
  • Perform other essential job functions as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
Department Specific
  • Cooperate with any BOLI approved standards and link to Joint Apprenticeship Training Committees (JATC).
  • Provide student assistance in conjunction with Pre‑Apprenticeship Career Coach, Construction Pre‑Apprenticeship Administrator, and Apprenticeship Manager.
  • Effectively instruct all content using interactive, hands‑on teaching methods.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge in the field of the taught discipline and ability to apply this knowledge.
  • Ability to adapt and use a variety of teaching and assessment techniques, including technology, to enhance student success.
  • Ability to observe, direct, and oversee students ensuring safety in the classroom or laboratory.
  • Ability to work with and present curriculum concepts to diverse students with various learning styles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, various course management systems, and technological tools for traditional, hybrid, or online courses.
  • Effective communication skills – written, oral, electronic.
  • Commitment to non‑discrimination in services to students as per EEO guidelines.
  • Willingness to travel and teach at various hours and campus locations.
  • Collaborative mindset and teamwork with faculty.
  • Ability to learn and use COCC, BOLI, and JATC technology for communication, delivery, assessment, and record keeping.
  • Knowledge of the State Apprenticeship system and ability to connect students to trade opportunities.
Ergonomic Requirements

Ability to work in classroom and office environments using computers, whiteboards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. The role may involve extensive travel and operation of a full‑size pickup truck pulling a trailer.

Minimum Requirements for CTE
  • A degree or credential appropriate to the primary teaching assignment (AAS, BS, or MS), or a minimum of 24 quarter hours (16 semester hours) of credit in the field, or a journey card in a related trade.
  • One year of successful teaching experience, or evidence of potential for excellence in teaching.
  • One year of relevant experience in an apprenticeship‑related field.
Special Qualifications

Pre‑Apprenticeship courses are offered in conjunction with Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) – Approved Registered Pre‑Apprenticeship schedules. Teaching assignments require training and approval to teach NCCER curriculum.

License: Valid Oregon Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.

Certifications: NCCER Certification or ability to complete required training.

Equivalency Statement

The College recognizes the value of skills and knowledge gained outside formal higher education and paid employment. Applicants who do not meet minimum qualifications but possess equivalent qualifications or experience may be considered. To qualify under equivalency, applicants must indicate how they qualify under equivalency in the supplemental application question.
