TITLE: K–3 Literacy Instructor (Grant-Funded, Part-Time)

COMPENSATION: $40,000–$48,000 annually DOE
POSITION OVERVIEWThe Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend is seeking a dedicated and student-centered K–3 Literacy Interventionist to support foundational literacy development for elementary‑aged youth across our East Bend and Downtown Bend Club locations.
This grant‑funded position is designed to strengthen early literacy skills through targeted intervention, assessment, and structured literacy instruction. The Literacy Interventionist will play a key role in identifying literacy needs, monitoring student progress, and delivering instruction designed to accelerate reading growth for kindergarten through third‑grade youth.
This role combines literacy assessment, data management, whole‑group foundational literacy instruction, small‑group high‑dose tutoring, family communication, and literacy engagement programming. The ideal candidate believes all children can become successful readers and brings strong relationship‑building skills, knowledge of foundational literacy instruction, and enthusiasm for working with youth in an out‑of‑school setting.
This is a one‑year grant‑funded position with continuation dependent upon future funding availability.
Literacy Assessment & Progress Monitoring- Administer literacy benchmark assessments to kindergarten through third‑grade Club members.
- Conduct progress monitoring assessments and summative evaluations to measure student growth.
- Maintain accurate assessment records, progress data, and program documentation.
- Analyze student performance data to identify intervention needs and inform instructional planning.
- Support reporting requirements and outcome tracking associated with grant funding.
- Utilize student assessment information to support intervention decisions and literacy programming.
- Deliver daily whole‑group phonemic awareness instruction for kindergarten youth.
- Provide targeted whole‑group phonics instruction for first‑grade youth performing below literacy benchmark expectations.
- Lead high‑dose literacy tutoring cohorts utilizing provided curriculum materials and instructional resources.
- Deliver literacy intervention instruction in small‑group settings with a maximum 4:1 student‑to‑instructor ratio.
- Implement instructional routines and intervention programming with consistency and fidelity.
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning needs.
- Support youth in developing foundational reading skills including phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, fluency, and early literacy development.
- Foster a positive and encouraging learning environment that builds confidence and supports academic growth.
- Deliver programming across multiple Club locations, including East Bend and Downtown Bend.
- Collaborate with Club leadership and youth development staff to ensure successful program implementation.
- Build positive and supportive relationships with youth and families.
- Communicate with families regarding student participation, literacy growth, and literacy support opportunities.
- Assist in planning and implementation of four annual family literacy nights designed to strengthen literacy engagement and family participation.
- Participate in literacy night events, supporting literacy activities, family engagement opportunities, and literacy resource distribution.
- Participate in staff training and professional development opportunities.
- Support literacy‑focused initiatives designed to strengthen educational outcomes for Club members.
- Maintain program materials and instructional spaces in an organized and effective manner.
- Uphold all Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend policies, procedures, and safety expectations.
- Experience working with elementary‑aged youth
- Understanding of foundational reading instruction and early literacy development
