Position Overview
Title: Part‑Time Instructor – Health & Human Performance Outdoor Leadership
Classification: Instructional
Location: Campus

Primary PurposeProvide instruction in Health & Human Performance Outdoor Leadership courses including lecture and selected learning lab components. Part‑time instructors direct student learning, discussions, and evaluate student performance in the classroom and during hands‑on field sessions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide instruction in Outdoor Leadership courses, including lecturing and guiding classroom activities, and offering individual conference time to guide and evaluate student progress. Teaching assignments may include day and evening courses, and on‑ or off‑campus classes.
- Maintain office hours and available student contact; at least one office hour per week for each course taught.
- Cooperate with other college personnel and Outdoor Leadership faculty to aid student learning progression.
- Act as a resource person for students.
- Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to each location as assigned.
- Supplied knowledge, skills, and abilities as required for Outdoor Education, Adventure Education, or Outdoor Recreation, including safety, risk management, navigation, wilderness first aid, decision making, weather, instructional facilitation, communication, organization, and professional ethics.
- Knowledge and experience in teaching diverse audiences and group dynamics.
- Visual acuity sufficient to supervise students in classroom and field settings.
- Familiarity with and ability to operate technical equipment (rock gear, mountaineering gear, stoves, whitewater rafts, etc.).
- Physical capability to carry a pack >50 lb over uneven terrain >3 miles.
- Effective verbal and written communication in English.
- Ability to apply training program concepts, conferences, and professional literature.
- Collaborative skills with faculty and staff.
- Willingness to travel and/or teach at varying hours and locations.
- Capacity to advise and serve students from diverse backgrounds.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment and compliance with COCC Driving Policy.
- Wilderness First Responder Certification.
The College will consider applicants who do not meet all standard qualifications but present equivalent experience or skills. Applicants must indicate equivalency by responding to the supplemental question during the application process.
Preferred Qualifications- Teaching experience in a community college.
