Job Summary

OSU‑Cascades in Bend, Oregon invites applications for part‑time, temporary TRAL Skilled Craft:
Outdoor Assistants for the Tourism, Recreation, and Adventure Leadership (TRAL) program throughout the 2025‑2026 academic year and Fall Term 2026. The Temp Skilled Craft Outdoor Assistant will assist the instructor of record in delivering course outcomes related to the specific course (e.g., kayaking, canoeing, climbing, snow sports). Responsibilities include providing emphasis on activity and basic skills, participating in field sessions, demonstrating and assisting students with equipment and resources, delivering safety briefings, and managing student safety on water and land.

Experienced assistants will demonstrate up‑to‑date techniques for the required course.

• Assist with fundamentals of the TRAL course, activities and basic skills (95%).
• Assist lead instructor in managing student safety (95%).
• Other duties as assigned (5%).

The part‑time, temporary position is anticipated to last 6–10 weeks per 10‑week term, mostly weekday afternoons with occasional Saturday or extended field‑time.

• Minimum qualifications vary by course assignment. Applicants must meet the specific qualifications for the course they are assisting with.
• Paddle Sports:
  Documented Class IV kayaking or ACA Level IV certification.
• Climbing: AMGA Single Pitch Instructor Certification or equivalent experience.
• Snow Sports: PSIA / AASI Instructor Certification or equivalent experience.
• Driving may be required; successful motor‑vehicle history check, current valid driver’s license, and compliance with university policy.

The position requires demonstrated ability to provide excellent service while collaborating with a diverse group of individuals.

Demonstrated ability to design, teach and assess courses that support inclusive learning principles and promote equitable teaching practices.

Outdoor activities on water and land, mostly Thursday and Friday afternoons with occasional Saturday or extended field‑time.

Hourly, $18.57–$44.07 per hour. Pay period 16th – 15th of the following month. Pay date last working day of the month.
