Primary

Purpose:

To provide instruction to students in the CIS program, direct student discussion, and evaluate student performance in the classroom.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction in the discipline, using approved course outcome guides. Teaching assignments may be during the day (including early morning), evening, or weekend, and could include classes taught at any of the College campuses, online or remotely.
  • Hold at least one scheduled office hour per class per week for student help sessions and program assistance.
  • Utilize College tools and resources, including the Learning Management System and Disability Services software, to support teaching activities as appropriate.
  • Participate in course assessment.
  • Perform other essential job functions as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
Department Specific Responsibilities
  • Teach CIS courses using Canvas and other technology tools such as Cengage. These could include CIS 120, CIS 131, or other classes depending upon instructor skills.
  • Work with students to resolve technical problems.
  • Work with the department chair to ensure course goals are successfully completed.

  • Thorough knowledge in the field of the taught discipline and demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge.
  • Ability to adapt and use a variety of teaching and assessment techniques, including the use of technology to enhance student success.
  • Ability to observe, direct, and oversee students ensuring safety in the classroom or laboratory.
  • Ability to work with and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles.
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office suite, various course management systems, and technology to teach traditional, hybrid, or online courses.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students, staff, and community members.
  • Ability to provide services to students in a manner that does not discriminate as to race, creed, religion, color, national origin, disability, age, sex, sexual preference, or marital status.
  • Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and campus locations, as required.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative atmosphere among students and a willingness to work as a member of a team with faculty.
  • Excellent oral, written, and electronic communication skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to explain the basics of a Windows computer, including basic hardware components and software.
  • Working knowledge of the Internet and tools to navigate the Internet efficiently and safely.
Ergonomic Requirements

Ability to work in classroom and office environments using computers, whiteboards, projectors, and other basic office equipment.

  • A degree or credential appropriate in the field of primary teaching assignment (AAS, BS, or MS depending on the program), or a minimum of 24 quarter hours (16 semester hours) of credit in the field of the primary teaching assignment.
  • One year of relevant experience working in the field.
  • Demonstrated successful teaching or evidence for the potential for excellence in teaching.
Special Qualifications
  • Excellent knowledge of and experience working with MS Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Capability to demonstrate how to modify a Windows environment using correct Settings to create a useful and safe user experience.
