Primary Purpose

The PT Instructor of Music provides instruction in the Music program, directs student discussion, evaluates student performance in the classroom, and may develop curriculum.

• Provide instruction in Music courses in classroom, remote, or online delivery mode using established course outcomes. This includes providing individual conference time to guide and evaluate student progress. Teaching assignments may include courses taught during the day and/or evening, classes taught on any of the four campuses COCC serves, by interactive video technology.
• Cooperate with the Fine Arts and Communication Department’s efforts to revise and standardize curricula for these classes.
• Attend regular trainings as scheduled by the department or College.
• Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to each location, as assigned.

• Thorough knowledge of field of Music based on education and/or experience in the field.
• Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics.
• Visual ability, corrected, to enable instructor to observe, direct, and supervise students in classroom situations.
• Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers, video chat technology (e.g. Zoom) and familiarity with or willingness to learn the learning management system ( LMS ) used at COCC .
• Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services.
• Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature.
• Ability to work with other faculty and COCC staff at all levels.
• Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations, as required.
• Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.
• Ability to work with Fine Arts and Communication faculty and other COCC staffs at all levels.

Work is performed in classroom and office environments with the ability to sit or stand at workstation for extended periods. The employee is regularly required to use computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary conversations.

Computer screen is used frequently. Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. Travel throughout the College district as needed. A flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the position responsibilities. The employee is required to meet physical and ergonomic requirements of the program area as this may vary from positions.
