Director of Capital Projects

Lonza is seeking a Director of Capital Projects to lead large-scale biopharmaceutical infrastructure investments from concept through commissioning. In this role, you will oversee strategic planning, design, budgeting, and execution of complex capital projects supporting advanced drug development and manufacturing. You will manage cross-functional teams, external engineering and construction partners, and ensure compliance with GMP, safety, and environmental standards. This position shapes site capabilities, drives innovation in facility design, and supports Lonza's mission to deliver high-quality therapies that improve patient health worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end delivery of major capital projects from feasibility through startup and handover
• Develop project strategies, scopes, schedules, and budgets aligned with site and global objectives
• Manage internal cross-functional stakeholders and external engineering, construction, and equipment partners
• Ensure compliance with GMP, safety, quality, and environmental regulations and standards
• Oversee risk management, change control, and project governance processes
• Drive design innovation to optimize facility performance, flexibility, and lifecycle cost
• Report project status, risks, and mitigations to senior leadership and steering committees
• Ensure proper commissioning, qualification, and technical handover to operations and maintenance
• Optimize resource allocation and contractor performance across multiple concurrent projects
• Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the project team
