Department of Revenue is recruiting for a Public Service Representative 4 (PSR4) position. We are looking for talented, detail-oriented individuals to join our Personal Tax and Compliance Division. This position is headquartered in our Bend office; however, the successful candidate may be eligible for in-state hybrid work. Hybrid work consists of performing duties onsite in a standard office environment and working remotely.

This position requires working in the Bend office Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the 6-month trial service period. After trial service, the schedule will shift to at least three days a week in the office, or more as business needs require.

What You Will Be Doing

Below is a sampling of job duties. It is not meant to encompass all duties.

Customer Assistance and Office Support

  • Independently assists the public over the phone, through correspondence, email and in person with 30+ tax programs administered by the Department. This includes information on inquiries regarding how and when to file, how to fill out all forms including amended returns, etc.

Post-Processing Audits - RAR's/CP2000

  • Using information received from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) about adjustments they have made to federal income tax returns of Oregon taxpayers. Adjustments are then made to those Oregon tax returns.

Issue Audit Adjustments

  • Conduct examinations of tax returns post-processing by correspondence to determine the degree of accuracy of tax reported on individual income tax returns based on Gen Tax Discoveries. Examine documents and financial records, receipts and certificates from other state agencies and match them to the source documents.

Tax Compliance Verifications

  • Processes personal income tax compliance verifications and certify results to taxpayers by fax and mail, following Oregon statutes, rules, policies, and procedures.

This Is What You Need To Qualify Three years of experience performing public contact and/or customer service duties comparable to the work of a Public Service Representative. At least two years of this experience must include dealing with the public in-person or by phone providing information about services and programs; explaining rules, programs, and procedures; and/or providing assistance, explaining requirements, and gaining compliance.

Preference may be given for experience providing service in an area of specialization specific to the position opening.
