The City of Bend is accepting applications for one (1) regular, full-time Code Enforcement Officer III in the Code Enforcement Division of the Community Development Department. This is an hourly, non-exempt (overtime eligible) position represented by the City of Bend Employee Association (COBEA). Join the City of Bend’s Code Enforcement program as an Officer III, where you’ll work on a wide range of cases with increasing complexity and independence. In this role, you’ll be out in the community responding to concerns, conducting inspections, and working collaboratively with property owners to achieve compliance. You’ll also have the opportunity to take on more advanced work, including abatements, legal case preparation, and coordination with other City departments.

Duties- Respond to community complaints and concerns about property issues.
- Inspect properties to check for code compliance and identify violations.
- Work directly with property owners and residents to explain requirements and find solutions.
- Follow up on cases to ensure issues are corrected and brought into compliance.
- Prepare and send notices, warnings, and citations when needed.
- Handle more complex or sensitive cases that require independent judgment.
- Coordinate with other City departments on shared issues or difficult cases.
- Document case activity, inspections, and outcomes in tracking systems.
- Prepare cases for court and testify when enforcement escalates.
- Help educate the community about codes, standards, and expectations.

This individual possesses strong customer service and conflict resolution skills, handling sensitive situations professionally and with respect.
They are capable of working independently and maintain a high level of attention to detail in all aspects of their work. Additionally, they have a basic understanding of legal processes, including issuing citations and preparing cases for court, and are able to collaborate effectively with team members and partner departments to support consistent and coordinated enforcement efforts.
