Position Overview

Speech Language Pathologist evaluates, plans, and provides treatment and rehabilitation as prescribed by a referring physician. Works with family and team members regarding patients’ abilities and goals. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

Essential Functions and Duties
  • Adheres to Oregon State Speech-Language Licensing Board Standards.
  • Performs evaluation and treatment of patients with speech, hearing, language, voice, cognitive or swallowing disorders.
  • Provides community resource, knowledge and referral services.
  • Provides staff consultation and training.
  • May be required to drive Rehabilitation van and meet all related SCHS vehicle policy requirements.
  • Functions as a member of the Interdisciplinary Care Team to assure care is accomplished effectively and efficiently in a cost effective manner.
  • Participates in clinical care conferencing.
  • Gathers data and accurately documents information in a timely manner demonstrating compliance with department standards.
  • Participates with team members in facilitating patient’s and family’s learning throughout the course of care.
  • Reinforces patient’s continued health care through teaching and/or referral to community agency follow-up.
  • Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects.
  • Supports Lean principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change.
  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.
  • Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.

  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.
Education

Required:

Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a college or university accredited by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.

Licensure, Certification and Registration
  • Must have necessary requisites for licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist by the Oregon State Board of Health.
  • Must have active Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Must have necessary requisites for a valid Oregon driver's license and ability to meet St. Charles Health System driving requirements.
  • Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all St. Charles Health System worksites.
  • Current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence.
Experience

Required:

1 year experience of therapy procedures with medical based diagnoses and familiarity with rehabilitation practices. Preferred:
Previous experience in a hospital-based setting.

Personal Protective Equipment

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

Physical Requirements
  • Standing and walking, keyboard operation, use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level – continually (75% or more).
  • Sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1–25 pounds – frequently (50%).
  • Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, reaching overhead, grasping/squeezing, ability to hear whispered speech level – occasionally (25%).
  • Climbing stairs – rarely (10%).
  • Climbing ladder/step-stool, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25–50 pounds, operation of a motor vehicle – never (0%).
  • Exposure to Elemental Factors:
    Rarely (10%) wet/slippery area, chemical solution;
    Never (0%) heat, cold, noise, dust, vibration, uneven surface.

  • Neonatal Therapy Certification Board:
    Neonatal Therapy Certification (NTCB).
  • Northern Speech Services:
    Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Scale (MBSIMP).
